Need a way to mass-edit
I just finished importing contacts from G-Mail and Mac Addressbook. The imports were less than stellar: the work/home/other email addresses got scrambled. Now, I have 400 contacts to go through the hassle of changing "Home" addresses to "Work" addresses ...one at a time.
A mass-edit feature where I could select all the afflicted contacts and then do a "change Home to Work" would be REALLY nice right about now.

Inappropriate?Hi Tom,
Very true, a mass edit is something we really need and is something we're working on. So far our energy has largely been spent on getting the Outlook and BlackBerry clients to sync properly, we'll be spending a lot more energy on the webapp the coming weeks to bring these highly needed improvements.
But apart from that, the issue you mentioned shouldn't have happened in the first place. It would help us to locate the problem if you could indicate where the contacts came from originally, did the contacts from Gmail cause problems or was it the Mac import into Soocial?
Thanks and sorry for the trouble -
Inappropriate?I have the same experience, where a large number of my contacts work email addresses have turned into "Home" ones.
Being able to search for specific email domains and mass-change them to work addresses would be great.
As a nice feature, you could actually also analyse all my other contacts and suggest (or just point out) that a particular domain seem to be "work"-related. For example, when using a company domain which is already "known" as a work-address for some other of my contacts, you should suggest changing/setting the current address to "work", and possibly vice-versa.
I’m undecided

Inappropriate?Searching for the specific mail domains works perfectly but currently there is no way of mass-editing your contacts.
What I'm concerned about is how did that happen to your labels. Which connections are you using? Outlook, Gmail?
-
Inappropriate?I am not sure when (meaning with which connection) it happened with. I almost assume it happened with the Outlook connection (which I have now disabled/uninstalled due to all the problems). But I cannot confirm if the Outlook connection is the bad guy, or if it is the Gmail connetions.
I am currently using two connections: Gmail and iPhone/Synthesis
I have used two others in the past: Outlook and Nokia E70.
(I have been in contact with your support - Bart - on the Outlook issues, but not this in particular.)
-
Inappropriate?Hmmm, most likely Outlook. Getting Outlook to sync the labels properly is one of our top priorities right now.
Synthesis and Nokia phones should be flawless with the labels and I'm working on getting Gmail in a saner state where we don't lose labels. -
Inappropriate? That would be my guess also... As stated before, I have temporarily uninstalled the Outlook-plugin, awaiting the new release. In the meantime, I have restored the original Outlook-contacts. Question is what will happen when I install a new Outlook-plugin.
Will I get duplicate contact entries (since one is having the phone number as Home and the other as Work) or will they be merged, but still with duplicate phone numbers (Work vs Home). It would be great if there is a way to establish rules for selecting a "winner" in these cases, or I will have to scrub quite a few contacts... ;-) or find a smart way of filtering contacts to delete before adding the Outlook-plugin again. -
Inappropriate?I have looked through a few of my contacts in your web interface, and it actually seem like the "erroneous ones" do not have "any" indicator on home/work, until I hit the edit button. The label is blank on the contact card view, but when I hit the edit button, the field label is (automatically?) set to Home, as it is the first entry of the label-dropdown?
Could this be the cause? That the label is "non-standard" and thus use a "default" state in the respective connection? In the syncing process this has scribbled up the labels, it seems.
It seems the "unlabled" contact details are labeled "other" on my iPhone, which I guess is the same as "unknown" for the iPhone?
I also have contacts which have gotten the "home" label, although it should be "work". Most of the time, when there are multiple email addresses or phone numbers.
Does this help you identify the issue? (Sorry, that this thread is somewhat off-topic...)
