OSX Pref Pane Login Can't be Verified???
My Soocial system preference pane keeps telling me my login can't be verified. The info I've entered is correct and I've attempted multiple times to login through the preference pane to sync my address book contacts. I just created my Soocial account today and have successfully synched with my cell before attempting to sync with my Mac Address Book.
I'm on a PPC Mac running OSX 10.4.11.

Ok so we found out that it doesn't make any difference if it is installed for "all users" or just the current user. This is something in the Keychain Access going wrong: It does not supply the password. One reason would be that the password is not there. For this, it would be helpful to look into the Keychain access app, search for Soocial and report what shows up. Send this info to us, or if it looks like there is no password there. Remove the Soocial preference pane and re-install.
Another reason could be that Soocial is not approved to use the Keychain. Whenever the Soocial binary changes it has to be reauthorized for Keychain access. If it is not authorized, the Sync is cancelled.
We can't reproduce the problem apart from these issues.
I’m hopeful this will fix the issue

Inappropriate? After further inspection, I discovered there was an error in the website address I entered under Soocial debug preferences. I can now successfully login to Soocial via the Soocial OSX Preference Pane, however, it's now giving me a different error when I attempt to sync my OSX address book. I've included the error from the Soocial debug log in Console below.
2008-06-28 06:00:28.714 SoocialSyncTool[7918] Soocial Sync Client started
2008-06-28 06:00:31.517 SoocialSyncTool[7918] An error occurred while reading Password for [private]@gmail.com from SoocialABSync
2008-06-28 06:00:31.517 SoocialSyncTool[7918] Cancelling Sync process: No Password provided
2008-06-28 06:00:31.518 SoocialSyncTool[7918] Cleaning up
2008-06-28 06:00:32.880 SoocialSyncTool[7918] Synchronisation cancelled
I’m confused, yet optimistic.

Hi there, could you send us your username to support@soocial.com so I can have a look in our logs. Can't find you with your GetSatisfaction username... ;-) -
Inappropriate?Ej send us an email outlining his problem, we thought it might be that he had installed it as a system wide preference pane, and not just "only this user". But that wasn't it, from his email:
"I removed the Soocial preference pane and reinstalled it from your website. I selected 'install for this user only' just like I did the first time I installed said pane. I then attempted to sync the address book and got the same exact behavior in return. The drop-down 'sheet' says syncing address book and that it might take a while on the initial sync and the blue 'action' bar underneath shows movement for a few seconds before stopping all animation. It then just sits there lifeless until I eventually select close.
I checked console and found the same error message I included in my previous email. I then opened Address Book to see if I could detect if a sync had occurred and, according to the 'last import' tab, it no contacts via Soocial appear to have been imported."
We now suspect this is a bug in our OSX client and will be creating a fix for it. We'll keep you posted. Thanks for your patience, we hope to have you syncing with Soocial soon.
I’m sad to see users have these troubles

Inappropriate?I found no entry for Soocial in Keychain Access and then removed the pref pane and re-installed it per your request. It's still not synching the Mac OSX Address Book app. I'd like to note that its (the Soocial pref pane's sync button) never once asked me for permission to store the password in Keychain Access nor has it given me any indication it was doing so "behind the scenes".
This establishes that there's no Soocial entry in my keychain and, therefore, nothing for Keychain Access to pass along to the Soocial pref pane's sync process when prompted. Now the question is why isn't the Soocial pref pane trying to create an entry in Keychain Access? Its never once asked me for permission to do this or otherwise given me any indication that it was attempting to create said entry in the keychain. I'm assuming that it would make the entry for itself (after asking my permission to do so) in my keychain as most apps do. Please correct me if my understanding on this is wrong.
In reference to the possibility of Soocial not being approved to use the keychain, it hasn't ever asked for permission to access the keychain period. In other words, the Soocial entry in Keychain Access doesn't look like it was every created and this seems to be the underlying issue.
Thanks for your continued help.

Ok man, very clear response - and as far as I understand your explanation is correct. We're looking at it now and see if we can find out why our OSX app isn't accessing your KeyChain. Thanks again for your patience. ;-) -
Inappropriate?I just downloaded the syncing client. I'm running OSX 10.5.5 on an Intel machine and I get the same "verification failed" error. Here's the error from the Console:
