Inappropriate?Sorry, it took so long to answer this question Lode,
This issue is caused by a user setting in Outlook that lets you sort all your contacts by last name. Because of this Soocial will not detect those contacts as duplicates from contact with the same information but with First name first.
It is hard to solve this since we don't just want to mess with peoples data and change the name of a contact.
We are working on being able on user request to rename the contacts to First name first. After that the duplicates will be detectable by our deduper and we can merge them. -
Inappropriate?OK Bart, so when I change the settings in Outlook and resync problem should be solved? Or should I delete my Gmail contacts first, upload a clean set and then start synching?
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate? It took me so long because I have been playing around with it in Outlook. It seems really hard to change that setting in Outlook. Speacially to modify the existing contacts in a way it will make the First name first again for the "Save as" name.
Your last solution might work. But I thought of another solution too, but haven't tried it myself yet.
Take the next steps:
- Go to the www.soocial.com/connections page and remove all connections.
- Empty Outlook (Backup!)
- Reset Soocial https://www.soocial.com/tools
- Re-add Gmail
Now all the dupes should make it from Gmail in to Soocial and after running the deduper on the https://www.soocial.com/tools page most of them should be gone. After that you can hook up Outlook again and let it be fed from Soocial.
I will try this myself right now. -
Deduper is not completely done yet, but it seems to work -
Inappropriate?OK, will give your solution a go (have backuped Contacts already). Thnx BTW!
-
Inappropriate?Bart, #fail so far. I have 9k+ contacts, deduping is not allowed over 5k ... Can you delete my contact list please, I will set up new connections afterwards.
-
Inappropriate?Oh, I could have started the deduper though!
You can reset your account here: https://www.soocial.com/tools -
Inappropriate?Has there been any resolution to this question? i am also a gmail/outlook user and am set up as firstname, lastname in gmail and lastname, firstname in outlook. i certainly don't want to change my sorts on either end so am reticent to sync if this is going to cause a duplication of all my contacts.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Actually, this will work. The only thing we have to do after the initial sync with outlook is to reformat the formatted names. We can do that server side for all contacts. After the the syncing will work fine. Did you upload the contacts from Outlook so we can reformat and run the deduper? Please let us know at our support e-mail address. support (at soocial dot com)
-
so to clarify, do you want me to sync outlook and then wait until you do the reformat, then do gmail, or do you want me to do both? i am worried that if i do both i will get a mess of dupes before you are able to get to your part and they will sync to both sides. alternatively i suppose i can put both on manual sync only. Comments? -
It will be best for us to our part after Outlook has sent the contacts and before hooking up Gmail.
Just one warning. We will reformat the "save as:" name based on de First/last and middle name field. -
i am moving this conversation to the support email. i have a mess. it is now in the process of making at least 3 copies of each of my contacts. more accurately it has modified my original contact and added a new phone number under the "other" category and then copied the "business" number into that category. then it is dicing up each contact and making one contact with just the business number, one with the other number. i hate to see what it is going to do where i have 3 or more numbers/contact. to summarize i have the original contact with the original number duplicated, a new contact with just the business number and a new contact with the other number (so far). i may have to kill this whole thing, delete all my outlook contacts and restore from my backup. this is before i even added gmail. so far my original number of contacts was a little less than 2k, i am now up to 4.7k and counting. what a mess. -
