Soocial still lurking in Mac OS X somewhere?
I uninstalled Soocial from my MacBook some time ago, but have noticed in the system.log it is still trying to launch in some way? How can I remove this reference:
brsmacbook com.apple.launchd[117] (com.soocial.SoocialSync[812]): posix_spawnp("/Library/PreferencePanes/Soocial.prefPane/Contents/Resources/SoocialSyncTool", ...): No such file or directory

To remove the OSX client manually, do the following things:
- Remove the Preference Pane by right clicking on its icon
- Prevent the menu item from autoloading by removing it from the startup items in the user preferences
- If the menu item is still running, kill it with the activity viewer. If you don't, it will be gone after a logout anyways.
- There is a job that starts the launch of the sync process in regular intervals. Remove it manually by typing the following in the Terminal:
launchctl unload ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.soocial.SoocialSync.plist
Afterwards you can delete /Library/LaunchAgents/com.soocial.SoocialSync.plist from your home directory.
As the others said, the new version has an uninstaller that does all that.

Inappropriate?Hi Peter and Andy,
We've updated our OSX client and there is an official uninstaller now - this OSX version will be released soon and should fix this bug.
I’m glad there's a fix even if it took a while.

Inappropriate?Hey guys, just wondering - how does one get hold of this official OS X uninstaller you speak of?
I’m unsure

Inappropriate?similar question here. is the osx version out? which one is it? is it the one, which is available for download?
-
Inappropriate?Hey Philip, no it's not out yet. They got back to me via email, though they haven't yet told me how to manually remove all traces of Soocial. I'm still getting conflicts with my sync database. I did a Finder search for all references to "soocial" on my system (incl. system files) and removed a few files. There is also a reference to a folder in SyncServices that I don't want to touch until I hear back from the Soocial team. I even tried to reset my sync database with no luck. Honestly it feels really sloppy.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I am sorry Rick, to be honest. I don't know how to do it. That's why I didn't get back to you. Our OSX developer is external so it is not so easy to ask him.
I'll try to get him to answer this question. -

Thanks Gernot. Two quick questions for you.
1. Is it possible to unload Soocial from launchctl if you have already deleted the plist? Otherwise, should I reinstall then uninstall?
2. I'm still getting sync conflicts reported from iSync. I think it has something to do with the sync database. I tried resetting the database but I'm still getting conflicts. Does it have anything to do with this entry in the SyncServices directory:
~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/clientdata/[longnumicalstring]
Is it safe to delete that directory? -
1) if the file is not there it should not be in launchctl. try "launchctl list" to see if its in there. There should be a com.soocial.SoocialSync entry (or in your case: there shouldn't be)
2) I do not recommend manually messing with the database files that syncservices keeps. SoocialSync has to unregister, and it does that when uninstalling. To do ut manually, you can use Syncrospector that comes with the developer tools. If you don't have it, write me a mail, i'll send it to you. -
Inappropriate?Thanks Gernot! You rock!

Inappropriate?thanks for the replies!
I also found these files sitting around and deleted them:
~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/clientdata/com.soocial.SoocialSync
~/Library/Preferences/com.soocial.SoocialSync.plist
I’m glad it got figured out
