Thomas, so there actually are two issues here:
1. There is no test and notification that Sync Services should be on.
2. High CPU usage when Soocial is running.
I can understand your frustration that things didn't work out-of-the-box for you. I must say that this is the first time I hear of a Mac not having Sync services switched on - I'm sure it happens more often so we will look into switching Sync Services on automatically if it is off.
Secondly the high CPU, there must be something else going on behind the scenes that is screwing this up. Can you confirm that you're still running into high CPU usage after these 2 days since your post? If you could switch on debugging and send the console output to support@soocial.com that would help us find the problem.
(Turn on debugging by doing this in your terminal: 'defaults write com.soocial.SoocialSync SoocialShowDebugButton 1')
I’m hoping we find the high CPU issue

Inappropriate?Hi Thomas, we're looking into this now and seeing what is going on. What version of OSX are you on?
I’m sad that you are not Hassle-free yet

Inappropriate?Hi Thomas. Someone or something has disabled SyncServices, the underlying infrastructure that Soocial uses for syncing. You can activate it by starting iSync and going to its preferences. There should be a switch to shut it on or off.

Inappropriate?Mac OS X 10.5.4 is what i have. I enabled SyncS. in iSync and it has since worked, but unfortunately, my computer has also slowed down immensely as a result, with maximum CPU usage for over a day non-stop. I have had to change the power mode to "Reduced" in Energy Saver prefpane in order to stop the fan from going on. When I turn SyncS off, the problem is fixed.
It's just a pity that when I first started using it, there was not a single error warning me that SyncServ was off: I had to look in Console (90% of users won't even do that). For the 10% that do, such as myself, there was no Soocial doc. that explained what this error was, and so I couldn't fix it. It looked so easy, but it was not for a reasonably adept user such as myself, which is disappointing.
I’m not sure if I can continue to use Soocial (high CPU usage of SS)

Inappropriate?Hi,
I've also not yet had one case of SyncServices being turned off, you're the first one for me, too :-)
I highly suspect that your CPU issue is the reason Syncservices was switched off in the first time, since there has to be a reason, it does not switch off itself. There might be other Clients to Syncservices that cause the high CPU issue, it does no have to be Soocial. Please fire up Activity monitor (in "Utilities") and look which process uses too much CPU.
On my system I had cases of Apples DockSyncClient which syncs the Dashboard with MobileMe using 100% CPU. So to make sure that it's not this very common and annoying bug (that has nothing to do with Soocial), please have a look at Activity Monitor. -
Inappropriate?I have a similar issue to what Thomas does. I just installed the OS X PrefPane today, and although the PrefPane does not return any errors, no data is moved to Soocial. The PrefPane says "no contacts were sent and no contacts were received". My soocial contacts list is empty, so the "no contacts recieved" makes sense, but all of my contacts should have been added to soocial, yet they were not.
Here is my console report:

I'm running OS X 10.4.11 on a Macbook Pro. My sync services are enabled, and work properly for other apps.

Josh,
Can you remove your Mac in Soocial's connections, under www.soocial.com/connections and then it should force a slow sync. If that doesn't work email us your username to support@soocial.com and we'll look at it tomorrow.
