We have an (as far as I know undocumented) mini-version of Soup that you can embed using an iframe.
The Source URL for the IFrame is:
http:// USERNAME.soup.io/mini/IMAGE_WIDTH/POST_COUNT/?css=YOUR_STYLESHEET
IMAGE_WIDTH = Width of images and videos in pixels, should be a little bit smaller than the width of the iframe
POST_COUNT = The amount of posts that should be shown
YOUR_STYLESHEET = URL to the custom stylesheet for your page. This stylesheet should be hosted on your server.
For example, we use this on metalab.at. The URL there is:
http:// metalab.soup.io/mini/315/3/?css=http://www.metalab.at/media/stylesheets/soup_startpage.css
Let me know if that's a good enough explanation. Feel free to use the Metalab CSS as a starting point for your own.
I’m confident we'll make it work for you

Works great after some CSS tweaking for my site: http://flightsofideas.com/?p=406 -
Nice post ... too bad registration is required for comment. (Odd way to run a blog, no?) But say: why no demonstration page? Is nobody doing it actually? Or did I just miss the link? -
Comments!? I'm new to blogging - I'll get it right eventually... fixed... ;-) Thanks bentrem.
The soup is on every page on the right hand side - I'm after a nice way to make it look like a feed (still early days). -
Yaa huh huh ... to this old timer comments is what makes a blog a blog.
The right side-bar?! OMG that integration is so smooth I never even noticed it! Haaa ... evidently it worked real well! :-)
p.s. http://soup.groundplane.org is what I want to make use of -
@Flights - I noticed something broken in FireFox; slightly smoosched in IE, but scrunched in FF. Your "Blogs I Visit" is below in IE, but to the right and about 8PX wide in FF.
http://bentrem.sycks.net/images/soup_... and /soup_broken.jpg
The IFrame looks fine. -
Ah, div typo, thanks bentrem - I've added a bit more information to http://flightsofideas.com/?p=406 if you are interested. -
Inappropriate?Lukas, omg! This rocks! Gotta take a look at it.
ohrobot: You could also try one of those lifestream plugins for your wordpress. I modified an older version of lifestream, you can see it in action here. I think newer versions also come with a sidebar widget.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Hey, thanks for this ... precisely what I was looking for.
I noticed your use of it in metalab and loved it immediately, but could find no docs on it. In fact I feel I was lucking to find the link to Satisfaction. Maybe there should be a plain-vanilla DOCs page somewhere? (If there is one, I couldn't find it.)
thanks again / Happy New Year!
I’m grateful

Inappropriate?I was hoping for a way to embed my soup in my main site. Tumblr allows something like this to happen through JS. Also, I'm not a fan of iFrames.
I’m hoping for an alternative
-
Inappropriate?@thepete, just a thought...
iframe is better for seo.
search engine dont read js -
Yeah, I don't care so much about SEO. But that's good to know in general. -
Inappropriate?hey, i just create a widget for this:
http://wiki.dennyhalim.com/unpublishe...
just click get widgets and enter your soup id, size, how many post you want and your css.
that's it. you can embed it anywhere that allow js.
I’m excited
-
@denny - I don't think this is just a Firefox thing: the IFrame is far too narrow for comfortable reading ... I can't imagine what would make it so it looked good for you.
On another hand (I have thousands! **grin*) the problem I encounter with that sort of widget is that they don't target externally e.g. I clicked on the LJ icon (I'm there as "gnodal") but had the whole LJ page load in the frame ... which, of course, is far from optimal.
cheers / HNY -
I'm sorry Denny, but I can't find where it says "get widgets". I tried clicking on both "mywidgets" and "widgets gallery" but couldn't find any reference to Soup.io -
Inappropriate? We are definitely planning to re-do the whole Mini/Widget thing (that's why it is still unofficial) within the next few weeks.
That also means we'll take a look at different embedding options (including a potential JS version).
I’m excited

while you're on it... a mobile version will be great too.
maybe even an iphone version?
and detects the user browser then take them to a mobile/desktop version accordingly -
Inappropriate? This is fabulous! Will you be doing any tweaking on how things display? I don't know if it's just me, but I'm finding some of the items display very close together, particularly twitter posts which have no spacing. Here's my test page: http://www.lonita.net/fp/soup.shtml
I tried to tweak it a bit with CSS, but it didn't seem to take.
I’m thankful
-
if you want to display everything from soup.io i think point your domain to it would be the best solution. -

Inappropriate?@dennyhalim That's what I do at http://soup.groundplane.org ... but the point of this thread is to integrate that stuff into other pages in a site.
