guys, love you for the trying things first feature!! took some time at the beginning to figure it out, but it's so much nicer if you can try first before signing up. And if people still stay, the number of users is relevant at least :)
ps: what about a 'try it' button at the start instead of 'sign up', would give people more likely the idea i think

Inappropriate? Thanks! I came up with that idea after abandoning many sites myself at the signup form because I didn't really want to try them out *that* badly to enter all my data and wait for email confirmation for the millionth time.
Sites just put that huge barrier there because it's the easiest thing to do technically... but I think one can do better.
However, the downside is that it doesn't match people's expectations: We had several people who were specifically scanning the page for a "sign-up" button and couldn't find one (thinking we were in closed beta, etc) – that's why we added that specific button back after all, even though it's ironically right next to the text "No sign-up required".
For now this seems to be working fine.
Maybe it would work just as well labeled "Try it", and leading just to http://try.soup.io – but on the other hand "try it", trial account, demo... all these words make me think of shareware a little too much.
I guess we need to do some user testing to find out what works best. What's online now can certainly be improved upon.
Thanks again for your feedback!
I’m glad that you're happy
