Inappropriate?Name should be left blank, if you want your custom domain to be "mash.ideacritik.com".
If possible, you should set type to "CNAME" and value to "soup.io".
If you can't create CNAME records, create a record with type "A" and value "77.244.245.130".
The second variant is not recommended though, as it will break if we move our servers to another provider.
See also the other thread about this.
I’m confident

thanx. though when creating CNAME record (soup.io) i get follwing message:"You already have a record for this name. You can't have a CNAME and any other record on the same name."
the existing DNS records for mash.ideacritik.com are Non-editable (of type A).
adding the type A record you mention above works fine. does this mean my only option is type A? -
Inappropriate?Huh. That's weird. If you are not able to delete the existing A records, than it's not going to work.
What you've got right now (two A records, one pointing to Soup, one pointing to Dreamhost) is broken, and people visiting will have a 50/50 chance of actually getting to your Soup (= DNS load balancing).
If you can't remove the existing A records, I would suggest contacting your provider's support team. They should be able to help you out with adding a CNAME record that points to Soup, and removing the existing A records.

Inappropriate?my provider does not support root CNAME records. i therefore configured type A, value: "77.244.245.130".
is it feasible that you notify when/if you migrate?
(what about hosting soup on my server? is this in the workings?)
I’m wondering
-
Inappropriate? We will definitely notify you when/if we change our IP address.
We will also provide a proxy at the old IP address in that case, which means your Soup will not break immediately, but only a few weeks afterwards.
I’m confident there won't be any problems
