How to autostart SpiderOak minimized under Ubuntu-Linux?
Under Ubuntu-Linux I have to start SpiderOak manually. When putting it into the "autostart" (called "Sitzungen" in german), it starts autoamtically, but as a large window. I want it to start automatically and mininmized to tray. So I tried "alltray", but this doesn't work too...
Can someone help me please?
Thank you!

Inappropriate?Does anybody know, wether there ist a user-forum for spideroak-users?

Inappropriate?Tom -
Thank you for submitting your question. We do agree that starting SpiderOak in a minimized state is important and will be improving how this is controlled in the 2.1 version of the application (due out in roughly a month).
Currently, however, there is a way to accomplish this task - you may run SpiderOak via its command line interface. There are command line options for changing your back up selection, running in 'headless' mode (no GUI at all), or running in 'headless batch mode' where SpiderOak will startup, do all available work, and then exit when everything is complete. You may see all of the available command line options by running SpiderOak with '--help'.
Thank you again for your question and we will continue to post additional information about our development on our blog (https://spideroak.com/blog).
Best wishes,
The SpiderOak Team -
Inappropriate? It seems the command line options are no longer present in the latest release. How do you recommend addressing this issue now?
Thanks! -
Roborative -
To your question above, we have just tested the command line version in our various environments and it appears to be working as it should. For a complete list of the available command line options, please click here: https://spideroak.com/faq/how_can_i_u....
On Ubuntu the executable is /usr/bin/SpiderOak and all of the below commands should work:
/usr/bin/SpiderOak --help
/usr/bin/SpiderOak --print-selection
/usr/bin/SpiderOak --headless
/usr/bin/SpiderOak --batchmode
Please do let me know if you are able to make any progress and/or if you have further questions moving forward.
Best wishes,

Inappropriate? Thanks for your response. I'd found the blog posting with these options but haven't had any success with them. For example:
rmoore@rmoore:~$ /usr/bin/SpiderOak --help
rmoore@rmoore:~$
There's no output. :P -
Roborative,
Is it possible you have two versions of SpiderOak running at the same time. For example, is the application open before you open the command line. If so, you would experience the issues you mention with no output from the commands.
Please do let me know if closing the application resolves the issue and/or if you have additional questions.
Best wishes,
The SpiderOak Team -
Inappropriate?Right you are -- I didn't realize another instance was running. It might be nice to have some output in such a case.
I have a somewhat related question -- is it possible to run the headless version (which is started prior to login) and use the UI (that is, once the user has logged in)? I was imagining something along the lines of the UI attaching to existing instances.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Roborative,
You are right that we should display more information when another instance of SpiderOak is running; we will add this soon.
As for your second question, it is not possible to run the headless version and the UI at the same time although your idea above is interesting. It is a feature that we have thought about adding and is on the future feature list.
Please do let me know if you have additional thoughts or questions about the above or other topics anytime.
Very best,
The SpiderOak Team
