I think SpiderOak should be more open and community focussed
It's slightly disturbing how 'closed' the SpiderOak team are - they have no forum (other that this) and their blog hasn't been updated in ~5 months. For a modern internet company this is a fairly poor show - from the outside SpiderOak looks like it's dead or dying.
Yes, they updated their website a while ago and they've apparently got a new software version coming out soon - but these signs of life are really hard to see unless you look closely.
I think that opening up and being more community focused would go a long way toward reassuring customers and potential customers that SpiderOak is a durable, viable, vibrant company. A forum, and an up-to date blog would help a lot, without taking a huge amount of time.
So, what do you think?

Inappropriate? On a related note, proper community hosting for the code which SpiderOak has open sourced would be a good idea:
https://spideroak.com/code
These are just downloadable .zip files on a page - this isn't the way to build a developer community.
I really applaud SpiderOak releasing some of their code - but what's the point of open-sourcing stuff if you don't want people to hack on it? Hosting these projects on Launchpad: https://launchpad.net/ or Google code: http://code.google.com/hosting/ (or somewhere similar) would be a big improvement, helping raise awareness and get people involved.
This seems like a wasted opportunity to me - what do you think?
I’m confused

Inappropriate?Yeah, the fact that I had to search out "spideroak community" just to find this is a little odd. Even if they just embraced this site as their "unofficial" direct connection, I'd be able to work with that.

Inappropriate?Duncan and Erik,
I want to apologize for our lack of community awareness. It is something that I feel is necessary and currently being worked on. If you have any other suggestion regarding our community outreach, please feel free to let us know.
Thanks again! -
Inappropriate?10 weeks on.
Any update from spideroak?
Is there going to be an official community/forum page or will you be endorsing this forum? If the later, a link from your site would be useful information.
Thanks. -
Inappropriate?+ any chance of an rss feed for your blog / announcements ?
