Inappropriate?The e-mail addresses standard is defined here :http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2822.
It is not allowed to use international characters from ASCII table as well as some others.
Generally:
According to RFC 2822, the local-part of the address may use any of these ASCII characters:
* Uppercase and lowercase letters
* The digits 0 through 9
* The characters ! # $ % * / ? | ^ { } ` ~ & ' + - = _
* The character . provided that it is not the first nor last character in the local-part, nor may it appear two or more times consecutively.
I’m sorry about email addresses limitations

Inappropriate?Agreed, it's really annoying when companies don't follow standards. Being able to use plus sign, for example, is incredibly useful, however since hardly anybody actually bothers to read the freaking RFC when writing email address validation routines, frustration is inevitably created. Spock is particularly dumb in this respect, since they ganked my email address off LinkedIn (who support +), but then when I tried to sign up for Spock, I couldn't do it (and couldn't even change the address!). Lame.
I’m annoyed and exasperated by the failures of others
