When "removing the source of information" you should keep in mind that even if your Myspace, Friendster, Facebook profiles are set to private, you may still have a public listing that can be reindexed.
Are you saying that even if we set our profiles to private we still have to periodically check Spock and delete the information all over again?!?!
THAT IS A VIOLATION OF PRIVACY.

Inappropriate? If you've signed up for Spock and now want your account deleted, just flag your own search result and enter "Delete account" in the comments field. The "Flag" link is in the blue bar on the right side. Please do not flag your name or other information to request that your account be deleted.
If you want your search result removed (for users and non-users), please remove the source of your search result (LinkedIn, MySpace, etc.) - it should no longer contain public information or it will just be crawled again. Once this is done, flag your search result and enter "Source removed" in the comments field.
If someone is impersonating you, please flag the search result, explain the situation in the comments field, and we'll assist you in getting it sorted out.

Inappropriate? Are you saying I need to delete my accounts in order to be removed from your search engine? I just don't want these accounts to be be crawled from your service. I found old and wrong information and I don't want it to be included here, I do not have time to mine this service for inaccuracies in my profile. I want my entire presence deleted from your service without having to disrupt any of my other public accounts.

Inappropriate?Amesmb and Heidigoseek,
With regards to removing the source, you should know that services such as Myspace, and Friendster and Facebook are sites where if you are not signed in you can still search and find some information about you. Since Spock indexes publicly available information,we have no way of initially determining whether or not you want that information to be found. By enabling people to claim their search result and vote down irrelevant information(and display additional more relevant info) it creates an option so that if you can infact have a Myspace profile or Friendster account and not have it connected to your search result.
If you'd like to be completely removed from Spock (which in my biased opinion doesn't make too much sense when you really think about it), you need to remove those public sources of information so that it isn't reindexed the next time Myspace, Friendster, etc are crawled. -
Inappropriate?I Love Spock:
I've previously searched for my first & last name on Myspace and couldn't find it without signing into Myspace first.
As far as your admittedly biased opinion that getting removed from Spock doesn't make much sense, that is definitely a biased opinion. I've now known multiple people whose information that was SUPPOSED to be kept from public view on their social networking profiles managed to pop up on Spock without their knowledge. Maybe you all should check out your "crawler" to see if it's working as you say it does. Spock's so-called solution is to have people register with the site just to have their information removed and that's ridiculous. That's like a girl scout telling someone that she'll put their private info in the paper unless they buy a box of cookies from her. At least registering is free, but it still shouldn't be necessary.
I’m HATING Spock.

Inappropriate? Can't believe that I have to register for a service to delete myself from something that I never registered for. Which is in fact filled with 5 year old info from an inactive Friendster account... now deleted. What a huge time sink,Spock appears to be some sort of blackmail organization to make people participate,
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I didn't want to sign up, but I wanted my info DELETED. Spock doesn't seem to understand that some people only want their info where they know it is.
I’m Mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take this anymore!

Inappropriate?I do not want to sign up for an account on your stupid site, how do I delete my information?
-
Inappropriate? As noted above, to remove your search result you must first claim your search result. Claiming your search result can be done by clicking the "Claim" link found on the top right corner of a search result. After making sure that the "source" of the information has been made completely private, please flag your search result for deletion noting "Source Removed" in the comments field.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? It is pretty ridiculous to have to sign up with Spock to delete an account. In fact it's obscene... I hope you realize that you are ruining the internet (in your own small annoying way). Have fun chasing that almighty dollar all the while ignoring the population which involuntarily make up your creepy website. You're pathetic.
I’m happy to tell eveyone I know to avoid Spock.... BEST OF LUCK!

Inappropriate?Spock sucks. That's all there is to it. What a bunch of piracy, theft and b.s. this service is. For now I plan to keep my myspace profile, thank you very much. I fully consider that content a contract between myself and the folks that run myspace. I created it with the full awareness that it would be accessible to the general public, but I also knew that I had at least a modicum of control over the content. Spock's 'solution' to sign up for a spock account in order to delete information mined from another source is asinine. I hope your company tanks. It's no surprise that the co-founder used to be a Microsoftie. The whole data-mining issue may be a black and white area in legal terms, but as far as ethical and internet-friendliness goes (especially in that Spock creates profiles without consent) it's totally messed up. If there's ever a class-action lawsuit, sign me up.
I’m super-pissed

Inappropriate?I'm extremely frustrated with this - I was fine when it was regular stuff that was available online, but now my private accounts that emails are hidden are being put on here - things that you have to be not only logged in, but also be listed as a personal contact to find.
This is illegal and against all privacy laws. There will be a class action lawsuit available soon if people are allowed to add non-public information to public profiles.
I’m ripped

Inappropriate?Hi,
If you feel that private information is being displayed about you, there are a few ways you can remove it. The quickest way(assuming you've claimed your search result) is to vote down the information. If you are still having difficulty please e-mail info@corp.spock.com with your search result and specific problem and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Inappropriate?I do not see where to "flag" the search results. WHY is my old Myspace and Facebook information on this site when I deleted those accounts MONTHS ago???? THIS SERVICE IS A VIOLATION OF PRIVACY AND IS UTTERLY DISGRACEFUL.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Bill,
In order to flag a search result you must first claim your search result. This way Spock can ensure that the person requesting deletion is the correct person, and also that they've taken the necessary steps for removal (this ensures that they won't be reindexed).
In your case since your Myspace and Facebook have indeed been removed, than you should e-mail info@corp.spock.com with your specific search result and explain that your Myspace and Facebook had been previously removed.
While we're working on indexing more regularly on Spock a few things you may want to consider are that 1) if a Facebook or Myspace account has been removed than the link on your search result will send someone to an invalid link. 2) As with any information on the Web it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. So if I create a Myspace page claiming to be the inventor of the cheddar cheese or the heir apparent to the King of Luxembourg, than it wouldn't take much common sense to figure out that you were kidding. The goal of Spock is to merely direct people to where you are most likely on the Web. 3) Spock has a long list of inappropriate terms that are not allowed on the site, so even if you were to own a racially charged or sexist Myspace page with a bunch of swear words and nudity, that information won't end up on the site. 4) Spock enables people to claim their search result so you can easily change the fact that "The Notebook" is not your favorite movie, or that you're not really into competitive gardening.

Hi Love,
Why haven't people learned that Opt-In is the best course of business rather than Opt-Out??? Even if someday you DO learn this and modify your business model, you've already soured a LOT of people on your service. We do not trust you now, and it's going to take a LOT to change our minds. -
Inappropriate? The ISP for spock.com is 1and1.com Send complaints about their site to complaints@1and1.com, abuse-team@1and1.com
Dealing with spock gets you nowhere. Their suggestion to me - when I could not "claim" my own profile (posted by another person and containing injurious incorrect information unavailable elsewhere on the Internet) was to choose the "Forgot password" option. Illogical - considering that I am not disallowed from "Claiming" the post. Even if you do have access to the profile - Spock does not allow you to remove email addresses or information that has already been posted. You see - they use every post with sponsored ads - so your post represents income for them. If your post is removed they are losing income from a number of advertisers. The only way to deal with them is to send complaints directly to their ISP.
