Spock made me rethink data privacy.
You know, I have to say that I was initially very angry upon seeing my personal information on Spock. When I was told that the information their system culled from the web--my Facebook and Myspace info--wasn't private, and I'd need to make it private before they would, I was furious. Yes, it was information that was easily obtainable elsewhere, but I didn't want it on another website, all in one place! I felt violated!
While I'm still wary of Spock, I will say that it made me evaluate how much information about myself I was putting on the Internet. It made me weigh the risks of putting so much online. I decided to delete my Myspace, and my Facebook account is no longer searchable, nor can it be seen by anyone not on my friends list.
In truth, while Spock may make the search easier, it's not at all difficult for someone to find the exact same information about you using Google. If you feel like your privacy is being violated when you see something on Spock, you should reconsider your responsibility in the matter.
Also, Spock staff responds very quickly to e-mail questions and is friendly (Even when I was a little cold to them. Sorry, guys!) Try sending a question (that isn't already answered) to info@corp.spock.com

Inappropriate?I am now thinking I may follow suit and delete all of my facebook and myspace info off the internet. Even though all of my accounts are private they have no regard for people's personal rights. As a professional photographer I can see a ton of copyright infringement in the foreseeable future. I mean just a month ago Facebook tried to claim copyright on everyone's pictures. This is getting ridiculous. I'm getting out while the getting's good. Although I wonder if my information will still be on the internet even though everything will be deleted. This site finds people's deleted accounts and posts them. I feel like I want to start from scratch and recreate my identity because of sites like these.
