Inappropriate? For me it worked after Vista asked me if I wanted to allow Spotify to do whatever (UAC).
-
Inappropriate?works now! thanks
-
Inappropriate? As i understand it the problem is that the spotify team selects certain users to test the next version of the client. This will work for all users where auto-update is working, but where the update doesn't work it's impossible to upgrade because it's not possible download the new client from the homepage.
A quick an dirty solution is to copy the spotify binary from a computer where the auto-update works.
A solution would be to offer all version with version information from the homepage, then the client could inform the user what version is required when a "update failed" happens. -
Inappropriate? The problem is back for me and the Service Status says that all should work...

Inappropriate?I did what you told me to; reinstalled Spotify yesterday, and was able to log in again, though my playlists were not complete. Today I have the same problem. First, I get a message that tells me I have to log in as administrator on my computer. When I do so, Spotify tells me to download the latest version. What to do???

Inappropriate?Hi,
I have the same problem. Can log in via web to edit profile. Also tried to download latest version
Username: s.wikshaaland -
Try logging in now and see if it works. -
Hi,
It still does not work. I can log in, the "updating" window comes up, but it then prompts me for username and password again which fails. I have installed the latest version. -
This sound more like a problem with either your username/password or a firewall blocking access for Spotify. Make sure that any firewalls or antivirus programs you have allow Spotify to access the internet. -
I do not think it is a username/password error. I can log on, Spotify starts the update and then prompts me again for username password which then fails (first authentication is ok).
There is no fw/antivirus changes since before this error startet, and I have Internet connectivity during the update process.
Any ideas? -
Inappropriate? This is really frustrating! Why does this happen? Why do the app have to update again even if i download the newest version from the website? Can you help Andres??
I’m frustrated
-
It shouldn't be happening. Try clearing your browser cache and download again, we're looking into this a bit more to see what the problem may be since you're account is fine. -
Then I got it working! Thanks!:) -
and the problem is back!! extremly frustrating.... -
Inappropriate?I have had this problem as well, very frustrating. However, following the last lot of advice from Andres, I cleared my browser cache and downloaded the software again, installed and it works fine.
-
Inappropriate?its failing for me,,, it keeps at updating... and later give error message "download the new version or update proxy settings..."
What to do?
I’m frustrated
-
Have you tried downloading the latest version from our website, that should help. -
Inappropriate?I have the same problem, i tried to download the latest version but it makes my laptop crash...I don't know what to do ! My username is venea
Thanks for helping ! -
Can you tell us a bit more about your computer setup? Your entire computer shouldn't be crashing because of Spotify. -
Inappropriate?I have a window vista.
well as all the other users who seem to have that problem the update wouldn't work on its own so i had to install it by myself...I did but as soon as it was done i couldn't open spotify and all the other windows were freezing. I then uninstalled the first version I had in the hope it would help the new version to work properly ...So, I have now only the last version installed but my computer is very slow ...
When i click on the icon it says something like ( trying my best to translate from the french ) : " windows can't acces the peripheral, or to the specific file. Maybe you don't have suited autorisations to access this element "
thank you in advance for your help
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hello, I still haven't heard from you and my problem is still there ..my computer isn't crashing anymore but everytime i go near the spotify icon or folder my cursor turns into the circle and it is slowing down / not working ! i'm strarting to despair..should i just uninstall it and create a new account or it won't solve anything ? please help ??
I’m sad
-
Creating a new account wouldn't change anything, you can try to uninstall completely and re-install but it sounds like you've already tried that. If Spotif is not running and your pc is still acting weird I suspect that it may be another program which is causing the odd behavior. -
Inappropriate?well i have tried several times to uninstall it and during the lapses of time where i didn't have the programme on my computer, everything was fine. i have done a big clean up of my laptop, checked the updates and even the anti virus but everything is fine. I 'll try another time but i doubt it'll work ..What i don't understand is that when i click on the icon it says i might nor have the authorisation to acces the programme..??
-
I assume you have administrative rights on the computer? Perhaps you can post the exact message you get (without translating it) when you launch Spotify? -
Inappropriate?i had administrative rights yes.. i would have posted the exact message but my laptop died, yes died, i can't turn it on again ... so until tomorrow when the repair guy at 70pounds comes and helps i cannot do anything else. i really hope it's not spotify that did this but every thing until it stopped proved it was... i read another topic where people had the same problem with the 3.11update, uninstalling, installing everyday several times ... for some people it worked so i guess i would have tried that every day but since my computer died i really wish the team would find a solution as i cannot say i can pay 70pounds everyday unfortunatly.
i'll post the message in french on here asap , never know if it can help other people to solve everybody's problem
I’m sad anxious confused and frustrated ..

What's missing in this is some kind of comment/explanation that explains what's going on here... why are all these people getting these problems? As a paying user, you expect it to work, or atleast to get an explanation as to why it's not...
It seems as if the spotifyclient gets a bit confused when you install it in one network setting and update it from another...
I was trying from home when I wrote my original post - still not working there.
But today I'm using the public network that I was using when updating the last time - and here it worked like a charm...
Seems like it's time for this thread to enter the Q&A... with emphasis on the 'A' part. -
