"Just remember that everybody don't want anybody (even their friends, from time to time) to know what they listen to. Integrity is important."
Yes, and that's why it should be optional to use the community-functions. So that people who want to be "isolated" can use Spotify like it is right now, with no-one knowing what they're up to, and the ones who want to socialise can have that option.
Options are important. ;)

Inappropriate?Yes, I agree. I want to be able to view a persons all playlists and post comments..
-
Inappropriate?I think it's very easy to go down the wrong road with this. I don't think Spotify should be a community. Some people simply want a musicplayer and that's what Spotify should be.
I think 3:rd party applications and integrating spotify with communities such as facebook is the road to follow. Still waiting for that API though.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Or if they make a community inside Spotify it could just be optional to use it. A cute little "Community functions on/off"-button. =)
Please don't force us to use facebook or anything like that, just because we want to share music..
-
Inappropriate? This is a rather interesting discussion. I still think Spotify should be a "clean" music player, but of course people want to share their music. "The web is social" as Facebook says =P
The question is whether Spotify Ltd should help us share our music, or if they should provide 3:rd party developers with means to do it.
Just remember that everybody don't want anybody (even their friends, from time to time) to know what they listen to. Integrity is important. -

Inappropriate?I was thinking about all the work the company would have to put into it if they want to make a good community. Thats why they might want outsource that to 3:rd party developers, instead of developing another one of something there are thousands of.
The idea is pretty much the same as Firefox. You make a base product with only the most basic functions that everybody wants, then you let people personalize it with different extensions.
That will, in the end, give you more options.
I’m a great fan of options

Inappropriate? You all got some ideas here - good!
My idea was like this, like a friendzone at the right, something like this:
I’m happy

Inappropriate? The picture is just a example that I made very simple - there may be much better if Spotify will do it :D
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Yeah, something like that would be nice.. And when you click on one of your friends, it should show that person's playlists, and maybe a little messagebox or something.
-
Inappropriate?The friends idea is GREAT.
At the moment, I need to sign in with my own account everywhere to access my playlist... it would be so much better, if I could share my playlist with friends. or co-make a playlist with friends.
Think about it... you go to a party... at the party holder can just access your kick-ass playlist.. :-)
I'd say this is my favourite feature, in terms of what Spotify should put their resources into...

Inappropriate?Hi all,
as detailed in this thread, I have recently launched http://www.spotilinks.co.uk which is a musical social network for (UK) Spotify users.
Among other features, a member can "spot" other members (his "Spotistars") to receive, in his personal board, the 5 last playlists that each of them has created or selected. Each member can also discover his "Spotifans" (=members who spoted him) to assess the interest of spoting them back...
Members can also "spot" categories, moods and artists to feed their personalized musical board with relevant playlists and albums suggestions.
You can find more info here before you create your free member account.
I hope you will like it :-)
Cheers,
Mickael

Very cool site, Mickael! -
Inappropriate? That would be like bullying those who don't have friends. Plus I just want to listen to music. I don't want people to know what I'm listening to. Then I could just turn the option "what I listen to" on MSN. It'll just be disturbing. If such a thing comes to Spotify, then I hope they will have a Remove/Delete button for it.
(Someone also suggested it would app with Facebook - Horrible nightmare! I'm just so entirely tired of the facebook-share-button appearing everywhere.)
I don't want the Spotify-app to turn into a community. Find or make a community website instead.
I’m not agreeing
-
What are you talking about? You mean sites like facebook and myspace are bullying people without friends?
Even though you don't want people to know what you're listening to, it doesn't mean others share that opinion. Ever heard about Last.FM? -
(Gosh I don't know how to reply)
The bullying part was kind of a joke, meaning that someone who don't have a lot of friends will find an "Add friend"-app on Spotify as a reminder that he don't have that many.
I know about Last.FM and I'm a member there. Though, I didn't like it since my account got a bug and wasn't allowed to listen to music despite being a member.
However, Spotify has made an community now where anyone can share their playlists: http://sharemyplaylists.com/
Actually. All threads telling about "Add friend"-applications and communities never made it clear to me whether they meant in the actual Spotify browser, or on the net. I'm totally fine on the net, but the browser don't need any more changes really. New search options are ok, but the design is pretty. -
Inappropriate? If it became a whole community, the quality would depend on the users, and as the average standard of people isn't that good*, it would result in a not-as-good Spotify.
I'm totally fine with Spotify as it is now.
(* How I know? Ask yourself if the world is perfect.)

Not sure what you mean about "whole community". Adding your friends to a list, so you could see and play their playlists would be a nice thing. -
Should have mentioned that I read a couple of threads beforehand which all wanted a community of some sort, with friend adding. I then wrote that, and posted in each thread, so it's not that fitted. Also, as I explained before, all threads never made it clear to me whether they meant a community in the actual Spotify browser, or on the net.
To be honest, I don't really see why I'd want to listen to someone else's playlist. I've got my own taste of music. The only purpose would be to find new interesting music. But then again. I got my own taste of music, and who says I would find something according to it in someone's playlist?
By the way. If you got time, just listen to those tracks. I, for one, find them rather pleasant:
John ME - Love Is My Drug
Erik Hassle - Hurtful
Kurt Nilsen - Rise to the occasion
EMD - Baby Goodbye
IAMX - Spit It Out
I must say all those are pretty different in genre, meaning topic like Pain, Love and Neglect.
Enjoy -
