airport compability
You have got to fix the compability with airport so that I can use my wireless network to play music. I works with Itunes so it ought to work with spotify. Otherwise this spotify application won't work for me, since I don't want to listen to my laptop speakers and I don't want to buy a special sound cable just to make spotify play through my speakers. Look in to it!

One solution is to use Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba. It lets you play any sound over AirTunes. (Even system sounds if you are using OS X).
We use it at our office, and it works ok with one AirPort Express. Unfortunately our solution does not work that well with more than one AirPort because the delay will be different between multiple AirPorts.
I would obviously like Spotify to implement it directly in the client. (But then you might have to reverse engineer the AirTunes protocol?)
I’m unconcerned

We use Airfoil to stream to remote speakers at work without a problem, it would be nice if Spotify could do this without Airfoil :) but in the meantime Airfoil works. -
Having Airport support in the Spotify for iPhone application would certainly rock things bigtime. -
Airfoils works even synchronously on multiple airport express with recent versions. They even have a client for iPhone (that act like an airport express). -
Inappropriate?maybe spotify could have some kind of collaboration with the airfoil developers to improve the performance and minimize the delay?
I’m wondering
-
Inappropriate? This is not really a spotify issue, this is about apple locking you inte their products. But there is a 3rd party solution, look into rogue amoeba's product called airfoil ( http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/ ). Good luck!

Inappropriate?I got AirFoil a while back but I never use it because of the delays getting audio to my speakers. Watching a YouTube video, the audio is out of sync. I feel, like papapepe, that it would be amazing to have AirTunes support, but I sympathise with how difficult this must be.
-
It would probably have the same amount of lag, iTunes takes the same amount of time to actually send audio to the speakers but because there's no video to sync up you don't notice it.
I'm sure some networking buff could tell me how fast my network needed to be so that it worked instantly :) -

Inappropriate?Actually, there's just the same delay with any app other than iTunes.
More accurately - it seems that iTunes tries to fool you by not starting the play clock ticking until AirTunes can actually start playing the track. -
Inappropriate?I got around this problem in a slightly silly but functional way:
Get a minijack-minijack cable and plug that into your lineout and linein ports (normally blue and green) on your computer.
Get the Shoutcast Winamp plugin and DNAS. Set the Shoutcast Source plugin to listen to the 'line in' signal. It's very important to set the encoder to 320kbps as otherwise it'll sound poo.
Listen to the stream with iTunes. (Advanced: Open Audio Stream - {localhost:8000})
This is all free and will sync all airports.
Maybe I should put a fuller guide somewhere... :)

Yes, a fuller guide would be useful, Martin
I got stuck on 'Set the Shoutcast Source plugin to listen to the 'line in' signal.' :) -
Inappropriate?Righty-ho!
Here's a guide I made for my colleagues at work. The first step applies to most PCs - just find the blue and green holes somewhere! :)
1. Get a cable with two mini-jack ends and shove it in the green and the blue holes at the back. There are programs that do this virtually, but they often need money to remove someone saying 'DEMO' every minute. Do tell me if you know of one (for PC).
2. Get a shoutcast server running.
I. Get Winamp plugin
II. Get DNAS application
3. Start DNAS. Edit the config so max users is 1. Then kill the server, and restart.
4. Run Winamp. Go to preferences and under DSP/Effect choose Shoutcast.
5. The config will appear, go to the Input tab, choose Linein, and there should be meters to show you're receiving sound.
5.5 Make sure your encoder is mp3 and the quality is 320kbps otherwise it will either not work or sound like poo.
6. Go to the Output tab and click connect. If it doesn't work you've probably not started the DNAS.
7. Press the YellowPages button and unclick make this server public.
8. Go to iTunes, Advanced: Open Audio Stream... enter localhost:8000.
9. If you're connected to remote speakers you should see and hear the music.
10. In Skype, turn off 'allow skype to change my audio settings' or otherwise it'll set the recording input to microphone every time you use it.
11. Oh and save the 'radio station' by dragging it to the sidebar or you'll have to type it afresh every time.
There is possibly a better way to this - it does work, although I have found that sometimes I have to set the priority of winamp to above average in task manager if I'm working on anything (ie loading Open Office sometimes causes a stutter).
There IS a massive latency so control the volume with iTunes. YO! -
Inappropriate?Hi
I use Airfoil with two airport-speakers to play Spotify. The sync is quite good. I've noticed that sync is better when playing from iTunes, but the delay is very small, only if you really ahve one ear on each speaker you could notice it, otherwise, it's the distance that also matter. -
Inappropriate? My son found a solution for me in seconds on Google - try using Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba on licence - costs about £20 and works perfectly via Airport to my B.& O. - I am very happy!

Inappropriate?if you have an iphone/ipod touch you could always use airphones. that would stream your system audio to your ipod. if you hooked your ipod up to some speakers and did this, you might get the results you're looking for.

Inappropriate?Hi. My name is Daniel and I am from Sweden.
I think I have the best solution of this problem. I bayed a product from "ROXCORE" and it works perfectly to stream music from you computer to your speakers. You'll simply get a USB-stick that you put into a free USB-port on your computer. And then you get a mini-receiver that you put near your hifi-receiver. Now you put the souncables from the mini-receiver to the hifi-receiver. This build a wireless connection from your computer to your speakers. It is not only Spotify's sound you can stream, but whatever sound you like from your computer. (exemple sound from a very cool computergame).
I bought this hole kit in swenden for 499:- swidish heads. It is about 70 us dollars. This is much cheaper and simplier then "Airport". And its very good quality and no delay. I could not hear a noticeable different between a cable and this.
I think this is a very new product on the market because I can't find it on the webb. But I bayed it on "Kjell & Company" in Sweden.
Please make a reply on this if you have tried it.
