Audio distortion in loud tracks a problem with Spotify?
I recently got an invite to spotify and was really enjoying it until I listened to some songs and heard audio distortion on some songs. As an example it can be heard very clearly near the end in the song "Hurt" by Johnny Cash. Is this a problem with the way Spotify normalizes songs or some other technical feature? Or are the original recordings to blame? (Cash is not the only one being distorted)

Inappropriate?Try disabling hardware acceleration via preferences, it may be that your audio device does not support hardware acceleration or it does not work well with the beta client.

Inappropriate?I have tried that and made sure that it sounds the same on different computers and accounts. Please try the song Hurt by Cash and see if you can hear the distortion in the end part of that particular song.

Inappropriate?I see what you mean, after 3:10 it's particularly noticable. The version from the album The Legend of Johnny Cash doesnt seem to be as badly affected as the others althogh that track sounds pretty flat throughout. It sounds like the problem obviously stems from the source recording or has occurred during the encoding process.

Inappropriate?I believe that for some reason most of the music has been encoded at 8-bit depth. (This has nothing to do with the quoted bit-rate.) This is why when the music fades out at the end, the sound becomes distorted. This is easier to hear on the classical music tracks. This is because -generally- classical music has a greater dynamic range, and more bits are needed to accurately reproduce it. The loud and limited dynamic range of most rock music won't show this deficiency up so much ; but where you have fade ins and long fades into silence, the effect is very plainly audible.
