Inappropriate?I don't know if it is compatible with 64-bit? But try:
Right-clicking the file and choose "Run as administrator" -
Inappropriate?Have the same problem! also running vista ultimate 64
"Spotify was started with administrative rights. Please start Spotify manually to run it as the normal user account"
is the error message
Tried what devil said it didn't work
would really appreciate the help -
Inappropriate?Seems to work no what I did is that I unchecked the 2 boxes that said:
"Start spotify when the instalation is complete"
and
"Create icons for Spotify on the Start Menu and on the Desktop"
in the installation menu

Inappropriate? You need to run the program in compatibility mode for Win XP SP 2. Choose properties on the installer then jump to Compatibility tab and perform the changes. Good Luck!
I’m Confident

WRONG. -
Inappropriate? No problem whatsoever on my Vista x64 install.
Yes, I also got the error-message after install (Spotify was started with administrative rights. Please start Spotify manually to run it as the normal user account).
Then I just doubleclicked the icon on the desktop and Spotify started.

Inappropriate? You need to LEARN TO READ.
"Spotify was started with administrative rights. Please start Spotify manually to run it as the normal user account"
This is because the installer (must) runs with administrative rights in vista. But the client must be started with a normal user privileges (to get the right appdata and so on i guess).
When you start Spotify from the icon, without any elevation, it works on vista x64 as with other windows verisons.
I’m giving up

Inappropriate?I have tried all of the above and still no joy. Only method I haven't tried is that recommended by JKJK as I don't understand some of his instructions (eg start 'without any elevation.'). Can someone solve this problem and provide clear step by step instructions for those of us who love using computers but don't know too much about how they actually work. Thanks in advance.
p.s. spotify working fine on my xp laptop and my son's vista 32bit pc.This 64bit operating system is a pain! -
Inappropriate? You will get some error messages when you install it in vista ultimate, it does not however affect the installation. just ignore thous and after your done click the spotify icon.
What happens is that the installation program wants you to be admin of the computer but the client(the program itself) requires that you have to run it as a user (not admin). My computer knowledge is somewhat limited so it's kinda hard for me to explain but I'll hope this will help you. If after this explanation you still cant get it to work let me know and I'll try to help you further, -
Inappropriate? Thanks for you help lunheden. I'm still having the same basic problem. I install spotify, clicking run, etc when prompted and give permision when asked for it. The programme then installs into my program files (x86) file. I click on the desktop icon and login in. The programme launches but then a claxon sounds and the message 'spotify has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. windows wil close the problem and notify you if a solution is available' appears. When I try again next time, a message about spotify crashing last time is displayed. It did launch succesfully once, after about 5 re-installations, but next time I started my computer the same problems re-occured and have been doing so ever since! Can you help?
This 64 bit system has caused me a number of problems with soft and hardware. I bought the pc not realising what I was getting. -
Inappropriate?"Jesse" - I ran in "Win XP SP2 compatibility mode" but no help
"Raggi"& "lunheden" - there is NOT icon on desktop to click on, install is incomplete!
Anyone any help? -
Inappropriate? No help for you guys still having problems but I can now use spotify on my windows vista 64 bit set up. I had given up, then on a whim downloaded it again last week. It now launches from the desktop icon every time! A message does appear in the corner saying that windows vista display has been reset to basic colour mode, but everything now runs fine. Perhaps a fresh download migth help - I figured that Spotify/windows must have addressed the bug, as it seems to have affected a number of people.
Anyway, good luck. Hope it gets sorted.
