Disable the system tray icon?
Is there any way to disable the system tray icon?
I'm running Spotify in Linux through Wine and use a window manager without a systray (WMII) which makes the tray icon appear in a separate window.
I have no desire whatsoever to use some systray implementation either.

Inappropriate?You can do:
killall explorer.exe
but then Spotify can't be closed normally (you'll have to run "wineserver -k" manually to kill it).
There needs to be an option in Spotify to disable the tray icon to fix this cleanly.

Inappropriate?I agree - especially since Spotify shouldn't be there in the first place.
It's an application, and doesn't need to notify the user at all. I think it works (to and extent) to have an icon in XP and Vista, but windows 7, and probably other OSes, would work much better with no icon in the notification area, and the minimize and close buttons minimizing the program to the taskbar and closing it respectively.

Inappropriate?Using windows 7 here and well since we can pin applications to the system bar now there is no need to have spotify hiding in the new system tray. And to be totally honest it is a bad idea to force us to have it there in the first place when we try to actually close the application.

Inappropriate?Just switched to 7 and whilst it was a bit annoying having to close the App twice before its even more so now that lots of other Apps fit into 7's way of working better. Closing/minimising to the tray needs to be a user option, plain and simple.

Inappropriate?this could be done with a simple bash script. just point your spotify.desktop to your script that contains the following:
!#/bin/bash
exec path:to:spotify.exe &
sleep 3
killall explorer.exe
Spotify seems to die alright when you go the File>Exit-route.
cheers!
