Favorites/bookmark and browse functionality
For the moment the only way to find an album or artist is to search or click on it in a playlist. I would like to be able to save my favorite artists and albums in some list, not only all the songs in a playlist or as links in a folder, more the webbrowser way. Also some kind of browsing functionality with genres, artists and albums would be appreciated (like in iTunes). If not a list with all the artists and albums (I understand it could be a bit too long), so at least for the albums and artist in a playlist so that it's possible to sort out the list. However there should be a genre list.

Inappropriate?after one day of premium, thats exactly what i feel like!! keep up the good work guys, this will blow the world off its feet
I’m frustrated too
-
Inappropriate?I agree. I find it very hard to find new music to listen to. If I don't know exactly what I'm looking for I don't find anything.
-
Inappropriate?Yup, the lack of any form of bookmarking/favorite/rating-option is the current show-stopper for me as well.
I’m crossing my fingers
-
Inappropriate? Some sort of favorites-functionality is a must for me. Hwo else will I find my way back to the new songs I "discover"? I just found one, and now I will probably forget about it by the end of next week :-P
I’m one step from true love, spotify.
-
Inappropriate? This, plus a better search history would really make it easier to find the songs/artists that you never remember more than once.
I’m eager.
-
Inappropriate?Agree
-
Inappropriate?Yes, they could call it Favourite Artists and Favourite Albums and you would be able to browse them the iTunes way!

Inappropriate?I agree. By the moment, what I made is to create a playlist "Favorit artists". When I find an artist or a band that I like, I just drop one song into the playlist. That's for me the easiest way to have a direct link to every favorite artist/band

Inappropriate?I Would also like to be able to search the songs of one/all of my playlists separately. Like in iTunes, i would like to be able to sometimes search the music I have on my computer (aka. my favourite-playlist in spotify) while sometimes I want to find music which's not already in my library/playlists, so i search the iTunes-store (aka. all the spotify-music)...
did that make any sense? -
Inappropriate?I totally agree. Currently, to work-around 'favourite album' I have to search for the artist, drag the album link onto 'Create new playlist'. When I double-click this it loses the cover art and review, so I then have to remember the album name and click the artist name, then click the album name.
Perhaps it could be smart, and if a playlist is all the tracks of an album in order, just take you straight to that album?
As for marking an artist as favourite, my only work-around is do similar as above for their 'top hits' :-( -
Inappropriate?Minor correction on my 'favourite album' work-around:
You can click the album name from the playlist to get the cover art and review back (don't have to go via the artist) -
Inappropriate?Browsing genres would be excellent and also making it easier to find new music but withing your taste.
-
There is some support - type in genre:dub in the search box, or click on artist radio. -
Inappropriate? One easy workaround for now is to use your web browser's bookmark features to manage your Spotify music collection. See:
http://www.pansentient.com/2009/03/ho... -
Inappropriate?Currently, the best way to manage your music collection is to use a social web app called http://www.spotilinks.co.uk
It enables you to manage from a unique web page (your "personal board") all the playlists, albums and artists that you have published or selected from others (from browsing or receiving it from one of your "spoted" item...)
------
Note : pour la France, il existe Spotilinks.fr -
Inappropriate?Bookmarks would be really useful. The same with different search options than just a search box.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Absolutely, good idea!
I also think they should make a recent search! Like the 4 recent searches would be saved :)?
I’m happy
-
The 5 most recent searches are currently accessible in the sidebar, right above your playlists. http://hunch.se/gu/5f250af27484fd03e5... -
Inappropriate? Why is it taking so long time to implement a feature to brows your favourite album and artists? Are they even planning to do that? The official rep. wrote for 9 moths ago “We're looking in to this.” but then nothing happens.
I wish that Spotify would be more open about their plan for developing the client application. Which feature are they planning and then can we expect them to be released?
I’m frustrated

I Spotify just implemented all ideas, the program would be a sad mess. You need to be patient. -
Inappropriate? This is not some crazy idea, but a basic function in a music library. I don't always want to search for my music, I want to be able to do what I did when I used cds, to browse through my "collection". The lack of a proper "library" simulation is probably the single biggest problem with the spotify application.
My guess is that this has something to do with licenses, as the technical implementation would be trivial.
Hell, just open up a web API to get metadata from Spotify identifiers, and I'll code my own.
I’m frustrated
-
Web API? Yes please! -
Inappropriate?Don't forget that there's a half-decent workaround: Create a playlist called "Favourites" where you save one song from each artist. From there, click on the artist name to bring up the usual artist page. Sort that playlist by artist name, and Spotify will remember the order.
The same trick works for albums, of course.

Inappropriate? We are actually working on this, as mentioned, alongside with many other things. A feature like this need to be executed in a very careful manner, since introducing "something" will most likely cause problems and later repairing/replacing one solution with another is a tricky thing to do (UX-wise).
If you have any thought-through and concrete suggestions please share them with us!
Thank you guys.

That's the spirit! -
Inappropriate?I would be very happy with something that looks like the "Browse"-functionality in iTunes. Columns with artists, albums and tracks, only showing the relevant data in each column (i.e. if an artist is selected, show only albums with that artist on them).
Also, only show manually added favorites, but allow easy switching from "all my albums by this artist" to "all albums by this artist", and maybe even some "last.fm"-ish functionality with recommandations based upon what other people have added to their libraries.
I’m more optimistic than an hour ago
-
Inappropriate?I'd be happy just with a very simple "bookmarked artists" and "bookmarked albums" list. I can add albums I like to a playlist, but I don't see the artwork and reviews unless I click through from the playlist. Same with artists, and you don't get new tracks in your playlist when the artist adds them. iTunes has become a bloated mess and the simplicity of Spotify is refreshing so I also appreciate the hesitation to throw in a load of "me too" features.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate? Here's a new site that's designed to manage your albums:
http://www.spotifycollection.com
It lets you browse album art, select genre etc. I think it could be the solution we've been looking for... -
If I understand correctly, spotifycollection.com only manages albums, not individual tracks.
Still, the idea is interesting, and some could be interested. -
Inappropriate? It would be nice to have a tag cloud of our spotify library (ie: tracks from all playlists), like last.fm boffin does:
