Playlist folders? I want to organize my playlists in folders. This is important when you have a lot of playlists.

This is a no-brainer really. Can't not happen, only question is when (and maby, "why not last year?"...).

And also have the following in playlists instead of songs:
- Artist, all songs by this artist
- Album, the whole album perhaps like a folder
- A specific search criteria

Inappropriate?Very good idea, that's the only way I see how playlists can function as a virtual record collection.

Inappropriate?I totally agree, it would also be nice to be able to play all playlists in a folder as well.

Inappropriate? This is critical in the long run. I am almost out of screen real-estate and I will eventually run out! :)

Inappropriate?I agree - this has to happen.
More critically:
- it wouldn't be difficult to implement.
- It won't bloat the client - if anything it will improve the feel.

Inappropriate? It's great idea... my playlists list was awfully long just after first day of using Spotify. :(
I’m excited

Inappropriate? The only real flaw i have come across in Spotify is the frankly miserable playlist arrangement. The column is way to narrow and without subfoders it grows out of proportion in a snap!
Same thing when you add new items to your library, New Playlist should be the first option... not the last! This arrangement is navigationally stoneaged!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? The ability to organize playlists in a better way, and sort by them by things like album, and artist is basically the only thing that is actually missing from spotify

Inappropriate?Yes please. Just like iTunes use folders, that's perfect!

A lot of the ideas in this support forum feels like "Why not last year?"...
=P -
Inappropriate?I agree, I like this idea. A personal library within Spotify would be much better than having a jumbled up playlist of the left pane.
-
Inappropriate? Before this feature is added to Spotify, you can fulfill this need on http://www.spotilinks.co.uk
Each member of the community can use his personal board to centralize, sort (within custom families) and play all the playlists and albums he has published or selected from others...
This "My collection" column of a Spotilinks personal board is enriched by the "New suggestions" column in which the member automatically receives the new playlists of the items he has "spoted" (genres, moods, key-artists, other members)
=> each Spotify user can therefore enjoy a social web-application to manage and discover music...as explained in this (new) demo videos
I hope you will like it :-)

These sites should not be needed. -
@mikrob35: thanks, but I find http://sharemyplaylists.com easier to use and much prettier. That being said, I don't use Spotify playlist sites much. :) -
Absolutely agree. And ad-trolls such as norz that obviously has an agenda of keeping them alive, should be recognized for the spammer he is. -

Inappropriate?I would like to be able to mark albums as "favourites", in the sense that I thereby add them to my album collection. This way I could browse through my library and not needing to make a general search.
The iTunes model for browsing is an exellent example of how this could look.

Inappropriate? Please, please please implement this. Its not very hard to do but it would improve the user experience sooo much.
I’m hopeful
-
Inappropriate?Until this is implemented, you can sort of separate your playlists into groups by adding an empty playlist with lots of underscores, eg:
Playlist X
______Favourite Playlists_______
Playlist A
Playlist B
Doesn't work if you have loads of playlists, but I find it makes it easier on the eye...

Inappropriate? It wouldn't be hard to implement though, because all contents in a list generally is a list of http://open.spotify.com/... resources, so why not accept playlist resources too?
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Does Spotify not see these requests? It would be good for someone from Spotify to comment on this. As I need a way to organise/tidy up my long list of playlists.

Totally agree! @Spotify: Some reaction please! -
I think that the problem is that the huge amount of bugs that are appearing at the beta stadge and it is unfortunally a thing that are higher priorited at now, the spotify client must work out of the line. I think that the most of the problem is caused by slower connection which spotify not can handle correctly.
I hope that the team gets more time soon to stick into the development of the cool features such api, playlist foldering, skinning etc. -
Inappropriate?9 months since the idea has appeared in this site and still not in the program. Hopefully this will come to Spotify in the near future as this is much needed.

Inappropriate?I started using Spotify on the iPhone today and more than ever I miss being able to create cascading playlists - or rather folders so that I can for example add a folder called Ozzy Osbourne and then collect my favorite Ozzy albums in there, rather than have a great number of top level playlist folders which makes it all very hard to navigate.
Please give this to us! =)

Inappropriate?Need to be able to give a folder an ID tag like an ID3 tag and be able to sort the directory via tag not just alphabetically, it would help with so many applications
I’m Frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Google is your friend, folks. Look, sounds like this is enroute:
"And the future? Now that Spotify has its first two mobile apps live, the company appears to be shifting its development attention to other features of its service: “Making it easier for people to handle and share their music – particularly playlists. At the moment, there’s an ecosystem around Spotify, including sites like ShareMyPlaylists.com, but those sites are really just playlist aggregators. That’s not a concept we intend to replicate. We’re talking about real sharing and management tools.”
And I agree. The ecosystem he talks of is just pure bullsh*t and deserves to get blasted off the net, to be honest. Sharing playlists, and for that matter, managing them should be a native Spotify feature for PREMIUM members. You get what you pay for.

Gee, what an insightful, interesting and otherwise multifaceted response. *facepalm* - Bring something relevant into the discussion or leave it altogether. -

You have been reported for harassment and abuse. You're clearly in violation of the terms of service of this website and service. -
Inappropriate?Well overdue - hope when it gets implemented that it's utterly awesome.
I’m impatient!

Inappropriate?Share a folder too!
-
Inappropriate?Even if there's some reason users aren't able to create and manage folders/subfolders themselves, it might be an idea to have a setting to have preset smart folders which sort playlists into 'yours' and 'theirs' - theirs being any playlists not created (or collaborated) by you.
Building on the idea of smart folders, another idea might be to make it possible to have folders which automatically sort your playlists based on the most prevalent genre in the playlist. This should be relatively easy to do because each song has been assigned a genre etc.
I also like the idea of being able to add an album to a folder and having it contained as its own entity instead of simply adding all of the tracks to the playlist. This could be implemented in one of two ways: either as they appear when you view an artist's entire library, or similar to the way duplicate tracks are grouped.

Inappropriate?Why hasn't this happened already ??
Please Spotify don't spend all your resources on monetising the site.
Develop in parallel with the true spirit of the internet and the rest will follow.

Don't know if this helps but i made this app for such a task. I created it originally for myself but I'm putting it out as freeware, hope it's useful to you.
