This is a new feature that we will be rolling out later this week. We will offer premium subscribers the option to stream in 320 kb/s using Ogg Vorbis q9 codec.
We hope to roll out the new client to all users in the next few days, currently only a small percentage of users have it and the higher quality streams are not live.
We'll post more info on our blog once it's launched.

Inappropriate?Noone?

where is it exacly? -
Edit - Preferences. -
i can't see it =S -
Inappropriate?maybe just available in certain countries. Im in Sweden, anyone in Sweden with a premium account that can check and comment?
Hmm, i just checked on my friends computer and his spotify wasnt updated with the "high bitrate" option. Shouldnt spotify update automatically when u sign in? I signed out and then signed in as me and Spotfy was updated with the new feature (still grayed out though due to non-premium account I assume)
So try to sign out and sign in again, that may help. I run my account on a fast fiber connection, dunno if that has anything to do with it, if those accounts that contribute a lot with bandwidth also gets the update versions with high bitrate. While writing this I realize this is highly unlikely though lol
still waiting for some info, someone please check :)
cheers! -
You have to download the latest version from the homepage to see it. (I think...) -
Inappropriate?ok, the question remains. I bought a day pass thinking that it would give me the option to evaluate the "high bitrate" option. But it's still grayed out.
Seriously, what's the deal with it. It may be the incentive i need for a premium account but would like some feedback on it first. So weird that nobody comment on this, any spotify representative around?
peace.
I’m curious

:) Thanks! Interesting feature... to say the least. Looking forward to it. -
Very interesting. Thanks. -
Inappropriate? This is great news, and just the sort of thing which will convince me to sign up for a premium membership!
Will there be a way to distinguish (in the interface) which tracks are available @ high bitrate?
I’m excited
-
There will be no way to distinguish tracks since we plan to convert the entire catalogue to the higher bitrate. -
begs to question how realistic those plans are?
will you be having duplicates of everything (one low, one high bitrate) or encoding differently depending on the set preference?
how much of the stuff is all ready for this? -
It's very realistic and will be done. We will have duplicates of everything, it's an extra cost but this is why it's being added to premium users only.
Not sure how much we'll have at launch, we're starting with the most popular tracks and working down. It will likely be a number of weeks until we convert everything. -
that's surprisingly quickly considering the size of the catalogue - so i suppose all new material being added from now on (or rather from a while back on) has both variations? -
How do Spotify convert to a higher bitrate. Do you have a catalog of wave-files or do you have all cd-s or ???? / W -
Inappropriate? As a subscriber, why can't I check the box to stream at high bitrate?
-
I think it's not quite ready yet. Probably will be on Friday (according to some news articles). -
Ok thanks, some articles said it was available instantly for subscribers. -
Inappropriate?so day pass will not have it?
-
No, Day Pass simply remove ads for 24hrs. They will not have any of the additional premium benefits. -
Inappropriate? This is GREAT news!!! Premium users should have more benefits to make more people pay for Spotify. Keep ut the great work =)
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Great news! Just signed up again for premium for the third time or so because of this, I think you ge alot of premium accounts related to this feature. At least I hope because this is something really worth paying for when quality almost levels up to CD/lossless.
Atm. I can easily recognize the tracks that's 320kbps because when I check the "Enable high bitrate" option some of the songs are "not available" but when I uncheck it the same track are available ;-) I guess it's some kind o mapping that has to be done on my account to the 320kbps servers before it works..Still it would be really nice if we could get some icon/flag or something on each track that informed about the higher bitrate, please create a case for this to the development team =)
I’m excited
-
hejo, can you give some examples? That seems really weird. -
It was more likely a temporary connection issue that resolved itself even if all top-lists tracks had this result when changing bitrate option back and forth.
