Inappropriate?Hi,
We use a number of algorithms to create the popularity measure but in general the more a song is played by Spotify users the higher the popularity.

Does that mean that a song will get very popular if one person lisens to it over and over and over and over.... ?

Ingvil: My guess: It's probably more important for a song to have many listeners rather than one listener with many listens. -
It would be very difficult for one person to affect the rating of a song even if the song was left playing 24/7. -
Inappropriate? And why isn't it possible to see the most popular ALBUMS of an artist? Such an sort option would be very valuable too!

It could be misleading because Spotify doesn't serve music on a per-album basis. Imagine one song being extremely popular and the other songs on the album being complete shit, the extreme popularity on that song could give a misleading rating for the entire album.
However, it could be an interesting idea if the album rating was independent of the amount of listens and was based solely on user input (rate from 1-5 stars for example) -
Inappropriate? It seems the results are computed for each song individually.
A song that appear on a single, an album, a best-off seems to have a different result on each location. So, in a way, the global popularity is not totally exact...
How difficult would it be to have it computed globally for a song, merging the results of every location ?
The main problem would probably to be able to dissociate different versions/re-recordings...
