Hi,
I just wanted to let everyone know that we just released a new version of Spotify that includes support for scrobbling built in. For more information go here: http://www.spotify.com/blog/archives/...
Enjoy!

That's a frequent request and something we have considered, but not prioritized yet. More importantly, we'll make attention data APIs available for third-party developers who could easily hook us up with Last.fm or build a bunch of other cool stuff.

Here's a solution to scrobble on OS X. You need Growl and the Last.fm client installed, but it works just fine.

If you don't wanna read all of the instructions, there's a quick guide here:

Just adding another +1 for scrobbling. Since I've been a supporter of Last.fm since the early AudioScrobbler days, I really like and have a massive biased toward the company and would personally refuse to jump to a new service (ie, Spotify) unless I could still scrobble to my Last.fm profile - because I'd hate to see it lay vacant.
However, I think what Spotify are doing is immense and I would be quite happy to use the player, whilst scrobbling all listened tracks.
What's more, you guys are only down the road from each other (or both in London, at least) - and I know the Last.fm guys like your service too. So, if there was any integration to be done, it could probably be done face-to-face over a lovely cup of coffee.
I’m a loser.

If you are a windows user, you might take a look at his application:

I am not a windows person so I am still waiting patiently...

Sweet! A great alternative until a "real" scrobbling possibility comes around! -
Already downloaded it but it's not working, though doing all the instructions and problem solvings that I've heard of. -
Perfect! (for now) :)
Hampus: In last.fm check all folders for scrobbling. -
Stefan: It seems that I had all folders checked for scrobbling. Still not working though. -
Not the best solution. Don't work at all on my computer, worked for about 3hours on another computer. No idea at all why. -
Inappropriate?Yes, this would be a really nice feature to have.
@Andreas Ehn: You mentioned some attention data APIs, is there a public discussion somewhere about what to include in them?

Hmm, is Spotify located in London too? I thought that Sweden was he place to be! :) -
Sweden is the R&D department. London is the HQ.

And Luxemburg is the TH (tax haven)? http://www.spotify.com/en/about/press... ;-) -
+1! I'm also a last.fm enthusiast, but really excited by Spotify. As I see it, last.fm is no competition to Spotify in terms of actually playing tracks, but it still does do the statistics and community part very well. -
Inappropriate?I normally use the musicplayer Billy where i can scrobble my music directly to last.fm without using last.fm's software. If im going to use Spotify (which i think is great) i need to have both Scrobblify and the last.fm software running to get my music scrobbled, and thats two too many. So until u intergrate scrobbling in Spotify ill stay with my Sheepfriend Billy. Which by the way reminds me of another improvement of Spotify i've would like to bring forward. A short command to focus the software from tray, maybe you could even let the use choose which ever command u like, just like Billy. :)
Keep up the good work!
I’m excited

Inappropriate? This is really important to me as well.
I’m hoping you can push this up the priority list
-
Inappropriate?it's weird, but i feel i'm sort of cheating last.fm, as i've been actively using the service for few years and now i'm totally hooked with spotify but cannot scrobble anymore... i've been rather sceptic about subscription based music service but that has changed as well...

Inappropriate?I'm a huge fan of Last.fm and however excited I've been about finally being invited to Spotify I share the frustration of not being able to scrobble. BUT... Scrobblify seems to work on my computer (thanks so very, very much for the tip!!!), so I'm pretty content at the moment. Provided it doesn't stop working, of course.
-
Inappropriate?I'd love to be able to scrobble as well! I don't really care whether Last.fm scrobbling is an integral part of Spotify or implemented as a plugin utilizing neat data API endpoints exposed by Spotify, I just want Last.fm to have all the data of everything I listen to, all the time, always! :-)
-
I absolutely agree. -
Inappropriate?Hurry up with the api then, it almost feel like wasting time when listening to music and not scrobbling it at the same time! (I'm a mac user, and so far I haven't found anything like scrobblify for OS X.

Looks great! Thank you. Would prefer the API, rather than this (admittedly brilliant) hack, but this will do for now. -
Thank you, this worked wonderfully on my macbook! -
Brilliant - works a charm :) thanks! -
Inappropriate?Just want to add in that a better solution for Mac scrobbling came up in the thread Whyatt linked to earlier. It uses SIMBL and the official Last.fm client to scrobble and supports track length. I've been using it for an hour or so now and have no issues as of yet :).

That absolutely kicks ass! Thank you, and also for the sweet greasemonkey script for whoring up last.fm. -
When I try to enable scrobbling sitting behind a proxy I get error 302 (Status: Unable to contact server). Is the proxy-support enabled for the scrobbling-function? -

Teh awesome... -
Hi Marcus,
We're aware that scrobbling may not work behind proxies, it's something we're looking at improving in the future. -
One vote for proxies here as well... I'm behind one at work, and has the same error as Marcus. I took the liberty of making a new post for it: http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/to... -
Thank you! :) -

You're welcome, our hard working developers should get all the thanks. I just get to deliver to news. :) -
Inappropriate?spanks, spotify!
is it possible to love any songs too?
I’m satisfied. like rolling stones. or something.
-
I have created an application called "Spotify Last.fm Buttons" which adds buttons to Spotify allowing you to love and tag the currently playing track (providing you have scrobbling enabled). You can get it from:
http://lastfm.gadget-channel.co.uk/Sp...
Note: It relies on the "now playing" submission to Last.fm being successful as, despite appearances, it is not actually integrated into Spotify. It merely uses a Windows API to set the main Spotify window as its parent. -
Oh how I long for the day..
I also agree with you re: plugin framework -- the possibilities are endless.
Even so, it's still the API I'm most interested in.
Fun ideas include a Fuse/Macfuse Spotify filesystem ( /Volumes/Spotify/Artists/The Who/The Who - Then And Now (2007)/My Generation.spotify ), a Spotlight plugin etc.
Mainly though, I just want to make a good interface for Plex/XBMC.
Right now I only have play/pause functionality controlled by Plex, but soon... soon.. ;) -
Inappropriate?Wouldn't this functionality be better suited as some kind of official plug-in!? I don't use Last.fm and I don't want my client to include a bunch of unused functionality...
I’m undecided
-
It would be awesome with a plugin framework but until that happens this is a good solution. And the client is far from bloated.
