Is there any way to stop Spotify causing lag during online gaming?

I love spotify and recently upgraded to premium after having to reformat and losing most of my music collection, but whenever I play online games I get lag while listening to Spotify. Is there any way to maybe force it into an offline mode so that I don't lag as much?
