Let's integrate Spotify with Winamp to workaround annoyance of missing music in Spotify's catalog
I'm within the crowd of users who are highly annoyed with the fact that our favorite music is missing from Spotify's music catalog. More specifically, the crowd who also realizes this is not Spotify's fault but nonetheless won't accept this rather major issue.
Not going to wait for solutions to contract issues and copyright owners' change of mind this basically leaves us with three options for being able to play our favorite music in a single player. Namely:
* Ditch Spotify and revert back to playing locally stored audio files
* Wait until Spotify's application allows playing of locally stored files
* Write a plugin for an existing media player that integrates with Spotify's media distribution platform
Option number one is out of the question. We're fed up with the old way of ripping our entire CD collection and hunting for missing pieces for being able to play our beloved music. Digital distribution is here to stay and Spotify is a great alternative.
Option number two is higly unlikely since Spotify's business is not about developing the next VLC that also happens to integrate smoothly with their service. Rather, it's profiting from non-infringing digital media distribution (which, at least initally, required a separate client for several reasons).
Fortunately there's one option left. The bad news is there's currently no official way of achieving this due to lack of development resources for major platforms (ignoring libspotify for Linux/x86). Yet. But we'll get there, eventually, because it's the only way forward.
In the meantime there's the despotify project which provides an open source library for talking to Spotify's service. It's got all the necessary pieces needed to get started. As with the official libspotify API, a premium subscription to Spotify's service is required.
So, to get to the meat of this post, I would like to develop one or more Winamp plugins that integrate parts of Spotify's features (URIs, playlists, searching, playing) with Winamp.
Initially, I've got approximately one week worth of time to burn down into this project.
I'd appreciate help from others interested in this, preferrably experienced (or willing to learn) in the following areas:
* Microsoft Visual Studio (C/C++)
* Winamp plugin development (input, media library)
* Seeing solutions where others see problems :-)
You'll also be willing to release any code produced under a liberal, non-infectious open source license. The usual risks of hacking, and possibly not adhering to offical terms of use and APIs, apply.
If this sounds interesting, please let me know at winamp at eternalmedia.se.
Thanks!

Inappropriate?Ok, so after two weeks of hard work I've now got a cross platform reimplementation of libspotify with approximately 90% coverage of the API.

Most of the core pieces, except actual music decoding, works and seem to be quite stable.
I've started working on a Winamp media library plugin to test it out and to get to know Winamp better. It might take a while to figure things out as the available documentation is insufficent and their developer community practically dead, but eventually I'll get there.

Inappropriate? The other day this popped up. Not sure whether it's fake or not, though.
