Native Linux-Support would be great!
I'd love to see a native linux-version of spotify. Yes it works fine with wine, but in the year 2008 a native version for the cool-people among us 'd be great. :)

Have been paying since spotify was released. And all I see is new features making spotify in wine more and more unstable.
I’m frustrated

Maybe if no native support, making spotify works flawlessly in wine rather than deactivating not working stuff...

Come on spotify! I've been following this for a year now and I'm sick of not getting ANY response from the company. Andreas (The rep "helping") has only responded once in this thread and that was to comment on xtestify.
SPOTIFY: At least do us the decency of telling us why you are so unwilling to build a native Linux app.
I can't see that its not a question of demand (see above).
Or a question of not recognising the market (You give WINE instructions on your main site).
If its a case of not having any Linux savy developers then employ Simon Kilvington who built the above mentioned xtestify.
If its a case of money being too tight to employ a Linux developer then give us APIs which work with the free accounts and the Linux community will build an app.
And if it is a case of having closed source secrets in the free account APIs then how about a custom WINE wrapper which has none of the bugs that we are experiencing with normal WINE.
There are so many solutions to this problem that I find it astonishing and very disheartening that Spotify is completely ignoring the Linux community.
I’m disheartened and angered by the lack of official response

As some people have pointed out I would by a premium account IF (and most probably ONLY IF) there is an official native linux spotify client.
I love spotify idea and I would really like them to be more open and support all the linux community.
I’m hopeful

Everyone has a native Spotify application: Windows, Mac OS X, iPhone, Android but Linux users don't have it !! Why ?? I use Spotify with Wine, it's not the same as a native client, my multimedia button (play, pause, next, previous) doesn't work :/ . We, Linux user, buy premium accounts like the others so why couldn't we have a native client ?? A closed source client will not be a problem. It's your business, your source, but let us listen the music !!
I’m happy

A streaming service like Spotify is the perfect match for the ever-more-popular "netbooks", which typically run Linux and have too little storage for a local music library.

A Windows app with wine works, but it always feels like there are some things missing. It's always better with a native application. It's more streamlined with the OS and gives the application more "life". Someone mentioned D-bus support, that would be a great feature! And the sound would be much easier for the newbie to fix. There would be nothing to fix ;) Also wine adds an extra layer of complexity, even though the developers of wine has done a great job integrating it into the Desktop Environment. Using Spotify and getting access to it should be easy. I think thats one major thing with a service like Spotify.

Both 32 bit and 64 bit.
Ubuntu deb would be perfect :)

A native 64-bit version :)
I’m confident

And let it communicate with D-bus so we can make cool apps for spotify.

Inappropriate?Same here! Premium subscriber if and ONLY IF you release a native Linux client or allow some sort of integration in Banshee etc.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?today again im struggeling with listening to spotify using wine...
I have followed the tutorial 3 times, reinstalled spotify and wine. But still spotify tells me " There seems to be something wrong with your soundcard"
wine-1.1.42
tired of not being able to listen to the music Im paying for every month
I’m sad
-
The soundcard trouble you are experiencing is probably connected to wine configuration. Run winecfg an look under the Sound tab for an appropriate driver and press the test button in that window. -
Inappropriate?Hi all, I've just released a new version of my Linux client based on the libspotify library - it now has support for offline playlists - get 32 and 64 bit versions here, http://xtestify.sourceforge.net/

Finally after all this time ignoring us -
Thaaaanks guys ! -
Took bleeding long enough. Glad we finally have a Linux solution -
Thanx Spotify team!! -
The lack of support for playback of local files under wine was the last straw for me, and it made me stop my premium subscription some months ago. Now you've removed some of the other straws by making a semi-official native Linux client, so I've just resubscribed and installed the Qt client. It seems to work nicely. Thank you! :)
My expectations as a paying subscriber in the coming months are that you
1) Implement local playback in the Linux client (your compare products page says this is one feature I pay for with premium)
2) Make it an officially supported client
3) Make sure it keeps pace with the clients on the other platforms -
Just renewed premium. Also got 3 other linux users in the office to sign up for premium. -
Thank you! Downloading as i comment, can't wait to try it! No more choppy sound (as via wine) hopefully. -
Thank you so very much :D
Finally! :D -
Inappropriate?Why in QT? Whyyyyyyyy?!:'(
NB for Ubuntu users, I had to install the GTK workarounds manually:
$ wget http://repository.spotify.com/pool/no...
$ sudo dpkg --force depends -i spotify-client-gnome-support_0.4.6.50.g0aa5286-1_all.deb
I’m using a real envrionment

Inappropriate?Thank you, the native client works very well, you've done a good job.
Now if I may ask... is this possible to bind some global (and customizable) hotkeys for play/pause/next/previous ?
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Late, but good to see it done. You just got a subscription back for me, let's hope it gets improved so I can stay a customer this time.
-
Inappropriate?Just wanna say Thank’s !
And the fact that the app don’t appear in the menu ;o)
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Same for me !! Thansk a lot for this linux version :) Works well
Same problem with the app in the menu .. well a shortcut with "spotify" as a cmd do the trick :)
I’m really happy
