Organize favourite music in a library.
I't would be awesome if you could have a library where you can sort your favourite music. like iTunes(of course). This instead of just playlists. I think it's a pain to search for music every time i want to listen to it.
Apart from this Spotify is like i slice of heaven.

You can drag-and-drop albums and playlists to a desktop folder. This creates Internet Shortcuts. Then just use Windows Explorer to manage the shortcuts. See:

Adding to what everyone else is saying - what I'm really missing here is the "feeling" you get from looking at your shelf of CDs, or browsing the Albums on your XBOX, or using Cover Flow/iTunes. The "Ok, let's see what we've got today - and what I'm in the mood for". There is simply no notion of "My preciousssss" music with Spotify.
The lack of a "my favourites" functionality is actually making me listen to *less* of a variety of albums than with my music library at home. My library sits there, reminding me of stuff I'd forgotten about long ago. Spotify just captures whats at the top of my head - which sometimes, unfortunately, isn't very much.

I think the best way to implement something like this is to be able to make songs favorites or rate them. The same goes for albums and artists. That would not change the focus of the player but give the opportunity of finding the music you have "bookmarked". And maybe a feature that would allow you to look at most listened to songs. And all this data would be great when making a suggestion feature suggesting music you might like.

I agree, this feature would be great. I'm thinking it could be done by extending the sidebar to allow artists, albums and songs to be dropped on it. This would simply create shortcuts, it doesn't have to be more complex.

This is a MUST have. It's pain in the ass to have 100 playlists, one for each artist i like.

definitely, having a list of bookmarked artists (or albums/songs) would be a very handy functionality
also getting some notification when one of your bookmarked artists/albums are updated with new content (just a little icon beside the bookmark - maybe a different icon for updated music and for updated info) -
Inappropriate? This is exactly what is needed. It would be awesome if we could have this for the next update. I like the idea with dragging and dropping artists in a toolbar.

Inappropriate?Spotify definitely needs a better Playlist-function or some kind of arranging your favorites. If you have a lot of songs in a lot of playlists, it sorts of defeats the purpose. Maybe a Playlist-search?
I really like the idea of an "artist-shortcut". -
Inappropriate?I also had an idea during the beta that Spotify could have some kind of artist-library where you could organize your favourite artists in different genres etc... Didn't get any response from the team on that suggestion though.
-
Inappropriate?It's a great idea!
There could be like an "Add this artist/album/song to your library" button that adds the songs of you choosing to an iTunes like library :)

Inappropriate? If would be great if you could tag artists and albumb and song, like you can on last.fm... the best thing would be to sync last.fm tags with spotify tags then =)

Inappropriate? One easy workaround for now is to use your web browser's bookmark features to manage your Spotify music collection. See:

Thanks for the tip! :) -
That's a good tip, but still a workaround and you have to leave the application which is less than smooth. I want working playlists within the app. -
Inappropriate?I currently have one playlist for each group of music styles that I like (eg: Rock\70s, World, World\Party, Jazz). In there I have individual track or whole albums.
This is close to the experience I get with iTunes, as I mostly browser my music by genres anyway.
However, with Spotify, I currently can't search my whole library, in case I remember the artist or track name, but not which playlist I filed it into.
So the main benefit I expect from a Library is a search feature, plus maybe smart playlists, like: 'most listened to', 'recently added', 'loved'.
I’m hoping

Inappropriate? My suggestion is this: Let premium users get access to better organising features and sort modules.
I understand that all development costs and there's probably other patches and fixes to be implemented, but doing this for premium users would be another extra incentive to buy the whole thing.
Really: Spotify-team, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease fix this now!
And as others have written before me: It is a must-feature for all musiclovers out there. And that's whats Spotify is really all about (for me at least). Finding those hard to track down jazz-albums that no store carries anymore... but searching for them in my endless list is just such a pain.
Organize per artist or per folder, whichever, really doesn't matter how you solve it, but at least give the users a crude form of organising their albums/tracks.
Anyone who is serious about their music knows that the organising of it is a major thing, regardless if you do it manually sorting albums on the floor in front of your stereo or shuffling tunes around on your harddrive.
I’m looking forward to someone at least giving this a perfunctory glance.

Inappropriate?I think this don't are mandatory because you easy could make an playlist and name it to "library" and use it as a library
-
I don't know how much music you have, but this is a totally useless solution if you have more than a few albums that you want to keep in a library. -
Inappropriate?I'd have to agree with audun here, mate.
The only thing I'd use the drag-and-drop feature is for 'backing up ' links to playlists.
We're after a winamp style management/search feature.
-
Inappropriate? This is imo the most important feature Spotify is lacking. The whole system is great with all it's music, but the lack of organizing the music you like really is killing the useability of the program. At first when you only have a few playlists everything is fine, but it doesnt' take long until you find much more music you would like to save in easy to access playlists. And once you fill that playlist bar to the left things get messy.
Now what I would really like to see first is the ability to add albums and artists to playlists. And that those items would be expandable just like when you do a search and get multiple hits of the same song.
The second stage imo would be to enable users to search within only their playlists, since most of the time I find myself wanting to listen to some old tracks I know I like already, and I'm sure many others do aswell. The normal search should of course also be available. Also some way to sort all your saved music quickly would be really handy, like by genre, or artist, or albums, and such (with expandable items if possible). This could be called some sort of personal music library I guess. And this sorting and searching could all be done locally by the spotify program, no need to bog down the global servers when you just want to search your "own" "saved" music.
And like Tommy said, this would certainly increase the feel of ownership, since you now have control over your own library, not needing to resort to searching among all music in the world all the time. This supreme control could be a very good insentive to go premium as artlec pointed out.
So Spotify, please consider this features importance and possibilities!
I’m waiting for an official reply. Keep up the good work!

Inappropriate?Playlists are great for organising music of a particular theme, mood or purpose. It is a rubbish way of keeping track of the songs you like. That should be available as a simple click to fill in a star or something similar.
There is no reason to mark an album as a favourite. An album comprise a number of songs. A shortcut to mark all songs in an album as favourite would suffice.
A special page should display all your favourite songs, maybe sorted by artist and album. It should be nicely formatted with cover art etc.
Finally, the special favourite page should be 'filterable', i.e. I want to be able to play all my favourite songs from the artist 'Kent' or all my favourite songs from the album 'Hagnesta Hill' by 'Kent'.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?and after one year nothing has happened..

Inappropriate? It feels like the "purchased" tab in the spotify is a precessor to a personal library, adhence of "ads".
Otherwise, when Spotify begin to "allow" local files, they probably have to finish a such function, replacing purchased with "Library" section. Those ideas aren't mine completely, the leaked build has something similar to that. -
Erm, I'm not sure I follow you here.
And, leaked build? Where? -
