Password-protected "party-mode"!
I would love to see a feature where you can disable changing track or song and doubleclicking a track only adds it to the current play queue (last in the queue).
This is a perfect feature where you expose your computer at, for instance, a party where everyone can interact with the tracklist.
Putting some sort of simple password-protection to unlock the track-editing capabilites only for the "owner" of the computer.

Here's a few ideas I had for a "Party Mode" functionality. The main screen shows what song is "Now Playing" and what's "Up Next". Guests can place requests freely using the usual Spotify search function. When they select their song it is added to the queue as normal, but they also get an indication of how long it will be before the song plays (calculated by adding up the durations of the songs above it in the queue). The party host/s can set a password in order to get into "Host Mode", where they can edit the queue by adding or deleting songs and also moving them up and down the list. Although the playback/volume controls are shown on the pictures, anyone trying to use them to adjust the volume/pause/move to the next track would be prompted for a host password. I have many more ideas: let me know what you think!

A "kiosk mode" could also be a good idea. So the party guests can't use anything else than spotify...
But what's really great is that partyguest can out on their own music without downloading plenty of mp3's you don't want on your drive throughout the evening.
I’m amused

Just expanding on the idea..
If someone else tries to add the same song a minute later (to prevent abuse), it moves up the queue.
Could be an interesting feature.

Inappropriate?yeah i was thinking of this idea too. would be amazing. especially if it was implemented before a party i'm having next week!

Inappropriate?Man you read my mind! Just came here to post exactly that... Think it would be great if the system would lock on a "party playlist", which would record the date of the playlist and save it also for later parties (or for you to pick up songs your guests had chosen and you didnt know)
Great also would be if it connects to your webcam, when somebody comes and do a search/add a song to the queue, a pic is taken (that way you keep some cool memories of the party as well! ;) )
Could also be smart and mix up the playlists as a real DJ (trying to move styles and not play rock/slow/techno/reggae/rerock/slow/rereggae/,etc...)
I’m delighted

Interesting ideas, but I wouldn't want them built-in to the default player. An optional add-on, most likely developed by third-party developer would be enough for me. Keep Spotify clean and tidy. -
Inappropriate?I love this idea. Please implement it!
-
Inappropriate?Nice one, although some of the ideas suggested seems a little over the top.
The password/enqueue-thing should be implemented though.

Inappropriate?Just to mention something that would be quick relief to your problem you could always turn off the monitor or set the brightness on your laptop to zero.
-
Turning off the monitor doesn't seem like a very effective way of stopping people from changing the music... -
I said it's a quick relief, not a solution. -
Maybe just locking the computer is your solution?
Winkey + L in Windows. Don't know about Mac. -
Good point. For a Mac, password-protect your screensaver in System Preferences > Security. Next, assign a Hot Corner in System Preferences > Desktop and Screensaver. Spotify keeps running when the screensaver is on, but not whilst your Mac is asleep. -
You guys sort of missed the point. I want people to be able to queue songs, but not change tracks. People at a party want to interact with the music playing, but it's highly annoying when some drunk ass girl is playing 5 seconds on each song.... :D -
I do get it that having a party mode is your point.
I was just replying to the guy who suggested to turn off your monitor. It sounded so stupid. :P -
Inappropriate?i don't really see the password protection necessary (unless your friends are cocks i suppose), but having an adjustable limit for how much stuff can be in the queue at any given time would be nice
that or limiting the amount of tracks added per minute -
Drunk people are usually "cocks". Doesn't necesserily need to be password-protected, just be able to switch the behaivour for double-click in a track. Also, if someone can change track, someone will change track. Basic rule of human people. -
i need a "this is one of the best points" for comments as well as replies :) -
Inappropriate?I think it would be good if one could choose what would happen if one double click on a track. Would be annoying if someone want a certain song to play right now, double click on it and it is place last in the que, then they might just press "next song" until the song plays->leaving no song to play after.
One could enter options like: "Play immediately", "Put as Next song" and "Play last in que".
I’m hopefull

Inappropriate?how about playing a collaborative playlist through a hidden computer somewhere in the house and giving guests access to another computer (not connected to stereo) which you could only use to add tracks to the shared collaborative playlist.
haven't tried this. Can people sharing a collaborative playlist delete tracks? -
thats one idea, that we actually utilize at work. however, telling drunk people to "add songs to _the_ specific playlist" wouldn't be as easy. And you need two computers... props for the innovative idea, though :) -
Yes, everyone can add and remove songs from a collaborative playlist -
Inappropriate?<<<<<<< Windows Lock Mode>>>>>>>>>
If you are Using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you can lock the computer from the Start menu and Spotify will carry on playing.
Make sure you have password on the computer otherwise you can just click unlock
I’m IDEA!!!!

Inappropriate?Yeah! Brilliant idea Dan! Or you can just place the computer in another room and lock the door! Even more brilliant!
I think you're missing the plot here. Please, DO NOT share any more of your bright ideas in the future. -
:D -
Inappropriate?Maybe an option to remove duplicates would be needed too.
When somebody double clicks and the song doesn't start playing they're likely to keep on clicking and you'll end up with the same song queued up 15 times. -

Good work! -
I want this. -
Very good man! Spotify team, i am a premium member and i think you should do this, no exeptions! :) This is so much easier than using the "windows lock computer" feature. And if someone want a "kiosk-mode" i think theres some programs for that function out there.
And at last, dont forget to make the party mode "NOT" go away after exiting spotify. If theres a party and a dude try to exit and restart spotify, the party mode should still be there ^^ -

Inappropriate?Nice visualization of the concept and improvement of the initial concept! I like it very much.
Hopefully spotify will consider this feature.
-
Inappropriate?@topdog : What if the 3rd party application using spotify could run as screen-saver itself? Just make it look like spotify, and if you try to exit screensaver you need a password..

-
Inappropriate?OK- here's some more ideas, hopefully a slight improvement on my original...
This time Spotify incorprates a visualization when a song is playing and noone is using it to request a song etc. The details of the current song are shown as part of the visualization.
The search box for requesting songs has been moved for better access and Host Mode can now be accessed through a tab at the top.
The major change from my first idea is for Spotify to give more information about the playlist rather than simply showing the next song to play. By incorprating a clock- shown on the bottom right, Spotify calculates the approximate time at which the songs in the playlist will be played by adding the duration of the tracks above them in the list to the current time.
If the playlist were to "run out" and noone has made a request, Spotify could randomly select songs based on the artists or style of music already chosen- continuing to do this until another song is requested.
Let me know what you think!

Inappropriate?Seems like a very good idea - it would be a useful addition. But if Spotify have ignored a thread with over 160 'Likes' and a multitide of comments, they'll probably continue to do so.

Good point- although I can't see why such a popular idea is being ignored. I can't imagine it would be too hard to add at least some of these features to Spotify, and it would certainly give a lot of people a good incentive to upgrade to premium. -
If spotify ignore this great idea, somebody should make a mod or unoffical patch:P (for all versions of course). And the patch/mod should not need to consider what version of spotify you have. -
Inappropriate?Very good topdog2009! Spotify team: I am a premium member and i think you should do this, no exceptions! :) This is so much easier than using the "windows lock computer" feature. And at last, dont forget to make the party mode "NOT" go away after exiting spotify. If there's a party and a dude try to exit and restart spotify, the party mode should still be there with same password and songs etc :)
