Russian music totally underrepresented in Spotify - why?
Hi, I know that there is all the time coming new music to Spotify, but it seems that there is a huge gap what comes to russian, especially russian non-classical music. Famous artists, like Alla Pugacheva, Vladimir Vysotsky or Mashina Vremeni have few or no pieces at all. Is there some special reason for this (like that russians don't want to get their music to Spotify) or is it just that you haven't had time yet to add russian music? Or do you concentrate on music from those countries only which you are already working in?

Inappropriate?We've tended to concentrate more on labels in our launch countries but we're always looking for more content. Is there a specific label or two that a lot of this music is released on?2 Comments

Does this mean: the more launch countries the more country-related labels/artists come on board and the more country-related music will be available on Spotify? Do you have some regional examples for some of the actual "spotified" countries? -
Thanks for your reply! During Soviet Union era almost all music was published through the state-owned Melodiya (Μелодия) company. After the Soviet Union collapsed, situation changed. Melodiya still continues, but its significance has decreased as a lot of small record labels have appeared. I don't know too well which of these are the most important ones today, because all the time new labels are founded, some change their names and some merge to another. I would like to mention Bomba Music (Бомба Мьюзик) and Extraphone. Also some artists prefer to produce their music through big international labels (UMG, Sony...), if they have an opportunity to do so.
