Scrobbling to last.fm does not work behind a proxy
Title says it all really. The preference window says "Unable to contact server (error 301)" when behind a proxy.

The new version should be rolling out to all users right now that will hopefully fix this long-standing issue. Thanks for the patience.

Inappropriate?Hi Håvard,
We are aware that you can't use scrobble support through most proxies, it's something that we are looking into.
Andres -
Well, looking into something for 5 months... Any progress?
Scrobbling is really important to a lot of people... -
would a simple port-opening in the firewall sort this out? In that case, which port is used? -
Inappropriate?Hope U will find an answer soon... Anything else is great, thought i noticed some mistakes in the artist name for some songs...
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hope you fix this soon. It's been several months already. Is it that difficult to fix it? :(
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I'm amazed that it is not fixed yet, damn!.. If I could help... As cosmo321 says, is it that difficult to fix it?
At the same way, I'm wondering another question. It is possible to connect with the last.fm application as the same way than others apps do? like iTunes, winamp, foobar2000, Windows Media... This works through plugins administrated by last.fm, this means that we don't need to store user and passwd to Spotify app and the last.fm application don't have any problems with proxies.
Thanks :)
I’m frustrated
-
That's a good idea, i tried scanning for plugins with Last.FM before i checked the Spotify preferences to see if it would pick it up. -
Inappropriate? While this issue isn't fixed, I don't want to use Spotify. Lastfm support is one of the best feature of the soft, it's a must have :)
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I only want/need to use Spotify at work. At home, I have a machine full of music anyway. At work we have a proxy server, at home I don't. I think this is fairly important to people who want to be able to scrobble. I will stick with lala.com for the time being I think.
-
Inappropriate?Any new info on this? It's hugely annoying....
-
Inappropriate?A new version has released today but it still don't do scrobblings to last.fm :( I get the same "Unable to contact server (Error 301)" :(
I'm using Spotify more less for this issue and I hope that a lot of people are in the same way than me.

Spotify 0.3.12
We are now rolling out Spotify 0.3.12 with the long-awaited fix for scrobbling on mac and scrambling of proxy passwords. As mentioned earlier we have also included more download links and a Spanish translation as well as a fix for some character encoding problems.
I’m frustrated
-
Yeah, just updated my version and still getting the 301 error. I've officially stopped using Spotify. -
Inappropriate?I second this request. From work, I get mostly 302, sometimes rarely 301, and scrobbling never happens. This is behind a non-authenticating proxy that is only required for HTTP, while HTTPS goes straight through. Should Spotify be able to properly detect this configuration? In preferences, there is an option for HTTPS, but having it empty doesn't do the trick.
I would be quite happy if Spotify just relied on the Last.fm client to do the scrobbling, Loving, password-handling etc.
I’m eagerly waiting for a fix
-
Inappropriate?Same issue, can't seem to get Spotify to play nicely at all with Last.fm + proxies + scrobbling ...
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? What's taking so long? Last.fm works with other players, so why not Spotify?
Like so many others, I mainly need Spotify at work - where I'm behind a proxy. At home I play my mp3's.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Yes I'm the same, I had assumed this would be fixed by now. Can anyone from Spotify say what the deal is? Silence is not golden...

Inappropriate?IHåvard Pedersen reported this problem 5 months ago...
I'm really really frustrated.

Inappropriate?I get an error code 302 when I try and connect from behind a proxy. This problem is quite frustrating. It would be great if Spotify interacted seamlessly with last.fm so that recommendations came from there, you could love tracks etc but even if they just got scrobbling behind a proxy working that would be great. Is there anyone who works at Spotify that can provide an update on where they are in terms of getting this issue resolved?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I tried the old scrobblify plugin that was used before the added scrobbling. That plugin seems to work great. Just unhock send messsage to msn in the last.fm client (witch must be up and running to get the scrobbling to work)
Not a good solution, but better than no scrobbeling at all.

Inappropriate? It's a real pitty that this is not working. It's a really cool spotify feature (over deezer or other streaming sites) and unfortunately it doesn't work at work (where this is the most useful). Please, do something about this! (https proxy, error 302).
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I hope this is fixed soon. This is the reason why I don't use Spotify at work.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?A new update to Spotify today - scrobbling problem still exists. Could we at least have some feedback letting us know where on the backlot this problem is!?!
I’m pissed
-
It's on our backlog but there are a number of other points ahead of it at the moment. -
Thank you Andres for the update. It's nice to know that it's not been forgotten. Perhaps you can pass along our frustration to those who prioritise? -
+1 -
Inappropriate? Why on earth have you gone quiet about this? It's been SIX MONTHS!
I’m thinking about finding something else
-
Inappropriate?Six months, god damnit. :/
-
Inappropriate? Why it's not possible to use the same proxy settings for the last.fm plugin as for the main program?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?7 months old now. Got a new release a few days ago I think, still no fix...
Maybe you should read this article (in swedish): Joe Armstrong: Jag vill prata allvar med Spotify
Armstrong's cool, this Spotify problem is not.
I’m depressed
-
Inappropriate?I'm also irritated by this - I only use spotify at work and this feature is important to me. needless to say, it doesn't work at work....
I’m not going to be using Spotify much longer if this isn't resolved - it's a deal breaker for me.
-
Inappropriate? This is getting really frustrating now - how hard can it really be? I mean, 6-7 months, they should have been able to fix it in 280 days, don't you think?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Just stop using Spotify, people - I have. At work I just use last.fm's radio or one of those iPod things.

Inappropriate?I'm using scrobblify right now, but I can't use it with messenger running:
http://code.google.com/p/scrobblify/
But it's a sad way to solve the problem, I don't know why Spotify don't solve that. I can't accept that this problem is difficult to solve, I think that Spotify thinks that is not important, but we are a lot that think that it is important.
I’m sad

Can you post some binaries somewhere, I can't build this at work and there's only source code available from the Scrobblify project page. -
-
This "solves" the problem... but it's still a PITA. -
Thanks btw! -
Inappropriate? What can we do? maybe a facebook group called "we will not use anymore spotify while they don't solve proxy issues"
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I cannot believe this is still not fixed. It's very annoying.
I'm just thankful for Scrobblify!

It seems that Scrobblify has removed the executable from the website. Any idea on how I can get it? Scrobblify works through proxies, am I right? -
http://tinyurl.com/5j9pzv
it works but is not the solution to this problem. -
Inappropriate?Plesase fix that. It's really frustrating. And it seems that scrobblify 0.3 no longer works with latest Spotify update.

Inappropriate?I suspect all their developers are busy on the iPhone app of Spotify. That's a much cooler product than fixing the existing desktop version :-(
I’m cross
-
Inappropriate? In the meantime, you guys can scrobble from http://lastfmstats.livefrombmore.com/...
Choose MusicBrainz for full albums, choose Scrobble manually for individual songs or for albums not available/mistitled on MusicBrainz. -
Inappropriate? The majority of proxies do not support Flash, Javascript, and so on, so it does not surprise me that you are having problems using Last.fm. Additionally, in order to protect their websites from brute-force attacks and from attempts at intrusion by hackers, many organisations will not allow proxies to contact their servers. Ideally, you should not be using a proxy at all, so I'm afraid you shouldn't expect much improvement in this situation over the next few months, Håvard.
I’m sad but otherwise indifferent. Proxies are usually a Bad Thing (tm).
-
Scrobbling isn't done through either of those though, I think it's just an http request but I don't know for sure. Either way I get the same problem through a proxy at work that definitely supports both. The last.fm site and client actually work through that proxy, so it's certainly possible even if it might not be through ALL proxies. -
Sorry, but that's a really bad generalisation of the problem. Not all proxies turn everything off by default. Similar to Thor, last.fm, scrobbling and mainly all ports are open at my place of work - the ONLY thing that doesn't resolve is Spotify and Last.fm?! Go figure! -

Anyway, we're not talking about the last.fm website. As someone said before, the scrobbling in spotify is probably done using a simple http request to a last.fm server. And even if it wasn't the case, I run my own proxy to bypass my company proxy and I can browse the last.fm website using the proxy set in spotify. It's definitely a spotify problem and it's a shame that it hasn't been answered yet.
The only solution so far is scrobblify + last.fm software (which works great but is not really a straight forward solution).
Plus, Proxies are a good thing when you need them! -
Inappropriate? What makes this so difficult to fix? This should be an easy fix, but it seems like they don't bother looking into it.
I’m frustrated
-
So to use a proxy you have to type the address of the proxy into the "Host" field? And a port too?
Gosh, that must be why it's not working for all these people! And here we were thinking it was a real problem. -
So I'm doing something wrong for something happening right? Why thank you. -
Way to keep it classy. -
Kinda felt like you were calling everyone with this problem stupid. Maybe it was just me that got that impression?
Anyway. I won't be drawn into arguing on the internet. -
I suspect others, including myself, won't be as successful in applying your 'fix'. -
Pete, as I understand, the problem for most people following this thread isn't that they are having problems configuring the proxy settings. The problem is that despite being able to log in and listening to music behind a proxy, scrobbling to Last.fm doesn't work. And even though this issue has been identified for at least 8 months, no fix has been issued. So, Spotify, what's the status? Scrobbling is a niche feature for a small segment of users and now that segment is getting pissed off. -
Inappropriate?I think this is getting rediculous, as a sw developer i estimate this as an easy hack which could be done in minutes. the question is why don't you do anything?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? We've made changes to this in the next release. Please check if that fixes your problem once that release it out.

Same here, still same problem. If you mean the coming release, when is it released? -
Hi, same problem here. I have 0.3.20, rev 55496, and still this error 301. Or were you speaking of a future version to be released ? -
I believe Ludde was referring to the next version. The fix was not implement in 0.3.20, sorry for the confusion. -
So Andres when is this new version expected? -
Inappropriate?and when shall we await the new version?

It's not working for me on a Mac, though it is working for Windows users behind the same proxy. -
Inappropriate?Unfortunately, I am using version 0.3.21 (56302) and I still have the same issue (error 302).
I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you.
