Smart Playlists
It would be great to have "Smart Playlists" in Spotify!
When doing a specific search and saving this search as a playlist, then it should be possible to define this playlist as a smart playlist. If new content is added to Spotify it should be visible in a smart playlist if the search criterias of this playlist matches the new content.

Inappropriate?Hi Andreas,
To clarify, you mean if you created a playlist that had searched for example genre:rock, from then on this "Smart Playlist" would add all rock albums that are added?
Just want to be sure I understand your suggestion correctly.
Andres
I’m thankful

Yes, absolutely right! :-) -
Another hint for this idea: a Smart Playlist should not be a playlist where a user can add or delete tracks manually. Instead it should be just like a "virtual playlist" and nothing more than a saved search, which is updated everytime when you "open" this playlist. I hope, you understand better now what`s the idea behind this idea... ;-) -
Basically, have a look at iTunes' Smart Playlists.
Not only should smart playlists be available, but they should be possible to combine.
Let's say I have a playlist called "All my favourite bands", and one called "Ugh, no 90's today please", I should be able to create a smart playlist called "Recent favourites" with only two items in it: "All my favourite bands" and "Ugh, no 90's today please".
It gets especially interesting if it were possible to limit the SPLs to a certain number of tracks, as well as adding an option to search/sort by playcount.
One of the coolest things with iTunes is creating a SPL that basically says:
* Take my thirty most played songs from these genres/years
* Take twenty top-rated songs from the above playlist not already included in the list above
* Take fifty songs I haven't listened to for the past month from artists that I like
Save that as "Daily", and make sure it randomizes/refreshes on update, and you have a constantly updated playlist with some comforting classics, other popular songs as well as possibly new/unheard material.
Better yet?
Make that SPL sync to your iPod every morning before you head off to work.
Being able to do the same thing in Spotify (minus the iPod part, and especially minus the morning part -- god I hate mornings) would be awesome.
Also, SPLs are a good indication of who's a "poweruser" of sorts, it could be a differentiator between Premium and Free :-p -
Inappropriate?Oh I would like this.
Perfect for creating a playlist with only one artist and the playlist is updated when a new album is released.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? How about incorporating iTunes 'Genius' playlist, which looks over what tracks you have and makes a special play queue.
I’m excited for more features!

Inappropriate? To clarify: a smart (dynamic) playlist would search into:
- one, several or all playlists (= the user's library),
- or the whole spotify catalogue?
NB: saving a search that searches the whole spotify catalog is already possible, if you drop the search link into your browser's bookmark manager.
(You can also drop it in an html editor, in google docs, or in gmail.)
This is only a workaround, but it might help. -
Inappropriate?Heh, this idea is soon to be a year old, and even now the dev's have not got around to this? This is a joke, really, it should be a matter of minutes to implement a simple "search as a playlist" feature. Is anybody from Spotify really listening to this?
It's really anoying to save searches to playlists when they just have the first X songs in them, makes it pointless for anything other than "My fav tunes" playlists!
And typing "artist:[A] OR artist:[B] OR artist:[C] OR artist:[D]" is not fun!

I just think they have had other stuff higher up on the priority list (for example mobile versions). You have to remember they are a relatively small company with regards to all the stuff they accomplish. Also, I have a feeling that when they upgrade something they want it to be great. Which leads to my conclusion: We have to be patient!
