Spotify goes all quiet on me!

During playback the sound suddenly goes off, apart from the odd metallic pffp sound, and the only way to get it back seems to be in Preferences, deselect Sound Normalization, the click apply.

This brings the sound back for a short while, then it goes again. Back into preferences, select Sound Normalization this time, click apply, and it's back!

Since I've been typing this the sound has come and gone each time I finish a line. Is it a memory issue or a bandwidth issue perhaps (I'm on a 54mps hotel VPN at the moment!)
