Spotify keeps stopping and starting
Spotify has been working great for me all week since I installed it. For the last couple of days it has started becoming more unresponsive, and when I play a track it cuts out repeatedly. It's getting really annoying, because I love this program!
I have 1360KB download speed and 270 KB upload, I've reinstalled, nothing else is running, and it's still breaking up. Any suggestions? This is on a mac running Leopard.

Inappropriate? It's been working perfectly for me for the last weeks now.
And since there haven't been many reports I guess this is an isolated problem. I hope you get som help anyway.
-
Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to listen to Only By The Night but the songs keep stopping every 20 seconds for like 10 minutes!
I’m sad, frustrated

Inappropriate?Im having the same issue at work. and im a premium member, if they dont sort something out soon i will cancel my membership and just use www.we7.com
I’m Pissed @ Spotify!

Do you know if your work allows full connections for Spotify to the internet? It's possible that the office network is restricting traffic to Spotify. -
yep. I deal with our computers and router. nothing is blocking spotify. -
Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem with many tracks since a couple of days
-
Inappropriate?I'm having the same type of problem. Both at home and at work. I'm a Premium user, got a 100/10 Mbit connection and a top-of-the-line laptop.
At work there seems to be some sort of buffer under run, since the songs frequently stops for some time and then starts after a couple of seconds.
At home the songs skips, as they'd have a scratch or something.
Is there any up-trafic problems with Spotifys servers, perhaps?
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Same as here: http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/to...
As I point in my comment there, I think is NTP (clock sync updates from internet). If you disable them it should stop. -
Inappropriate?that's a question about Ubuntu .... a Linux OS. i dont know if the same issue would be on Windows as the clock doesn't update every few seconds. TBH, it seems to be working fine @ work now. I have a feeling most of it is down to several vairents i.e. Current ISP traffic/Back Ground Software sapping Badwidth/Kazaa (any p2p software) / Maybe even the total users of Spotify @ that moment in time. Spec of the computer itself doesnt play a part. Unless your on a 600mhz antique machine, something like that.
if it keeps happening, try going to www.speedtest.net and check your current internet speed (you may be paying for 20mb but during peek hours that can go down to 10mb! ....well, i know thats the case for Virgin users ((me! :(. )))

Inappropriate?I've been having this problem - play cutting out at random intervals - for a few days. It is very irritating, particularly as I am now paying for the service!
I thought it might caused by a broadband connection problem at first but there is no other issue with my internet connection - works just fine with everything else.
I imagine the theory of high traffic on spotify may be valid as playback was fine during the day but started cutting out late afternoon into evening.
I'm back listening to the ipod now which is annoying as I'm paying to listen to spotify.
Please sort it out soon or I may be forced to cancel my account.
Cheers, Rache
I’m disappointed

Inappropriate?Same problem here - its been great for ages and now just cuts out half way through a song, and just won't play some. Wonder if they are updating or something - what should I do? Email them or something?

I also have this problem, been getting really bad in the last few days. It's also crashing a lot. If this continues I might as well cancel membership :( -
Inappropriate?yes me too, it's getting more worse then ever, and the crews answers seem to be none.....
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? If spotify tech peeps won't listen to it's paying customers, just stop paying...simple.
That's what I've done and now I couldn't care less if the free version pauses. My gift horse is welcome to have a few rotten teeth. :)
I’m £9.99 better off.
-
Inappropriate?First, are you sure there's nothing wrong with your connection or a neighbour leeching on your wlan?
My problem seemed to be at spotify's end, as I checked with netlimiter and spotify maxed out at 10kb/s - usually less..
I deleted spotify's cache and restarted.
That did it for me :) -
Inappropriate?if it was as easy as deleting the cache (which hasn't been the case in other threads here), then at least Spotify devels would have the decency to tell us. Right? Now it is just annoying the hell out of loads of paying customers, me included, who don't get any answer. Spotify: do you need bad publicity now?...fix it...
I’m amazed there's no answer from developers
-
Inappropriate?I uninstalled Spotify, and deleted the cache. That seems to have worked for now!
-
Inappropriate? It's easy with intermittent problems like this to think they're sorted when in fact they're not. Any self proclaimed fix could just be purely coincidental. Wait till peak time around early evening midweek, then come and report back.
Even spotify thought (or at least they told us lot) that the problem was fixed. So I'd give it a bit more time before thinking you've cured it simply by reinstalling or emptying the cache.
I’m licking my CDs in a passionate manner, coz they never pause!
-
Yeah you were right! stopping and starting again today, really bad. Don't know what to do now! -
Inappropriate?I'd say Saturday evening is likely to have heavier load than Wednesday, but what do I know..
Looking good this far, and just visited my neighbour where everything seemed to work just fine. Looks like local issue to me, no idea what's causing it though :p
actually I didn't delete my cache, I changed it to another drive but should be the same as deleting.
As I said before, make sure your line isn't overloaded by down/uploads or leeching neighbours. -
Inappropriate?Well I don't have any 'leeching neighbours', I have a wired connection. Also tried closing all other applications that use the net.
I find the worst time for congestion is midweek evenings and Sunday evenings, peeps like to go out for a drink on Friday and Saturday night.
Whenever there were issues with spotify pausing, I'd run a speed test and find all was well. So just like many other people who have had this problem and looked into it, I believe the fault is at spotify's end.
How can a 10Mbit connection not cope with a 320Kbit audio stream?
