Spotify mobile bitrate and quality
What's the bitrate for Spotify Mobile when on 3G? And Wifi?
May I suggest a setting so that you can choose the bitrate for wifi and 3g?
Maybe have 3 options, 64, 128 and 256 kbps?
I think premium users get 320kbps at the desktop client, right? if that's the bitrate for the iphone app, that's a bit excessive and uses a lot of data allowance.. 128k for the 3G data network would be more appropriate, perhaps.

Inappropriate?Spotify Mobile streams at the standard 160kbps using Ogg Vorbis. We're looking at perhaps a lighter streaming mode for mobile if users have slow networks.

this is one of the best points

160kbps is good but maybe you could add a setting to streat at 80kbps? good enough for edge and slow 3G (my network limits to 128k after a set amount of data; 200mb, 1gb or 4gb depending on your tariff) -
We are looking at a "mobile streaming rate" which would be lower for those who'd like to enable it. -
Andres, when you say the iPhone app 'streams' at 160 kbps, does that mean that we can get 320 kbps when it's connected via wi-fi? If not, are there plans for 320 kbps via wi-fi? -
There are no plans to add 320 to mobile right now (3g or wifi) as it could lead to a bad user experience for lot of people. -
Andres, what kind of bad user experience with 320 on Wi-Fi? -
The problem isn't necessarily wifi but if a users were to say select 320 and then switch to 3g it could degrade service. -
switching to 3G will understandably degrade the service if the iPhone app stayed in 320 mode, the user should select a lower bitrate to match network speed.
The user gets a bad user experience on WiFi (160kbps) ;-) -

Inappropriate? To enable full flexibility, add the following user settings:
1. Minimum desired cellular bitrate (lowest acceptable quality as long as the connection allows for it, could be lower when only 2g/edge is available.
2. Maximum desired cellular bitrate (to reduce total usage/cost) -
Inappropriate?I think there should be an option in the settings to choose bitrate for streaming on Wifi, streaming on 3G, streaming on edge etc. And then another option for downloading on wifi. That'd be the best solution, as then you know exactly what you're getting, and you can choose.

I will not purchase Premium until the quality of the bit rate improves. The present 160kbps is not good enough to listen to on my quality headphones when on the move...I need a miniumum of 256kbps...320kbps would be perfect -
Inappropriate?I like this idea,
and see no reason why 320kbps shouldn't be offered to the iPhone in WiFi mode, since the PC has 320kbps, why not iPhone?
On 3G/2G/Edge have a user selectable bitrate mode to accomodate streaming on the move. -
Inappropriate? If not available in any of the streaming modes, 320 kbps could be made available in offline mode only? This shouldn't cause any bad experience for users, other than maybe taking a little more space to store...

Inappropriate?Any chance you can add 320kbps for mobile? Only allow it to be used when streaming via wifi or offlinging tracks. If the user switches to 3g mode override the 320kbps and drop to a lower rate for 3g streaming then auto switch back when user uses wifi again.
You could inform user with a popup the first time they enable 320kpbs that it's only supported via wifi or offline mode. That way you give those that want it the ability to use it whilst preventing bad experiences for people that don't know what they're doing and avoid forgetting to turn it off when going via 3g.
I've given spotify premium a trial run this month to see how well the mobile side works and on the whole it's great. But I really want to see 320kpbs on the mobile as it is on the client. -
Inappropriate? Why not simply add an option for "enable high bitrate when on WiFi" under mobile settings? Looking forward to being able to stream to my home stereo sometime (a la desktop airfoil)
