support local media
I would like spotify to support organization / playback of my local mp3 collection.
Everyone already has a library, not all music is in Spotify.
Noone wants to have to use two music apps.

True, having multiple apps for similar needs can be a bit of a pain.
We have considered adding playback of local media to Spotify's feature list, right now it's however not a top priority. Instead we are right now hard at work building and bringing to market a really great streaming service.
But who knows what the future may bring.. no promises right now though - first out for us is streaming.
Take care,

This was my first thought after the shock of awe fore spotify... I don't have time to search and find ALL my songs through spotify..
This really is a dealbreaker, not a lot of people will be interested in REBUILDING their library of music. If spotify doesn't support playing local mp3s then how about finding songs by searching an mp3 folder?
Some sort of incorporation is needed. Especially between spotify and itunes as some bazillion million people use ipods.
Love spotoify though, thanks!
I’m undecided

I would say forget about your pre-coneived notion of what "you are building" and focus on the customer.
A vast majority of your customers already have a music library.
Your differentiator from seeqpod/lala et al is that you can replace itunes/winamp.
But, it is awesome.. -

Inappropriate?I would find this extreamly neat to since there is alot of music i bought the records for wich isnt in spotify. For example redho chillipeppers, groundation and many smaller bands wich only released demos..
Please make this happen or integrate spotify with Windows media player..
-
Inappropriate?A cool thing could be to import a HTML/PLS/M3U playlist from e.g. winamp, and replace the songs in the playlist with songs from Spotify library.
-
Inappropriate?yes, PLEASE make it possible to add my own mp3's in my playlists!
-
Inappropriate?nowadays you might wanna explore file-hosting user collections (music locker) content.
i want my music in spotify - not only when i am at home but always when i'm connected to the internet

Inappropriate?I really want this, I hate that I have to fire up songbird when I want to listen to some postal service :/
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Well instead of letting Spotify play local media, it can at least extract ID3 tags etc. to try and find matches in the Spotify library and that way people won't need to find all of their songs manually? That would be smooth as you could just "import" your current WMP/Winamp/iTunes etc. library with ease as it just finds the corresponding songs in the Spotify library and makes a playlist with all the songs it's found. There could be issues with this (like ID3 tags missing etc.) but most songs incorporate ID3 tagging so it shouldn't be a problem for the small amount of songs that may not be found.

Exactly, that would be awesome! -
Inappropriate?I would really love to see this idea implemented. At the moment I'm still enjoying the box fresh feel of spotify but I know that I'll want to 'merge' my local media in and keep the best of both worlds in one place. I'm not sure I can see me using spotify in the future without this simple feature implemented...
I’m sorry to hear this isn't a priority.
-
Inappropriate? Is this implemented? When I was searching for this topic in the satisfaction search I could see a tag [Implemented] next to the topic title, but I'm not able to play local media with the latest version. As many Spotify users, I dont see myself using this program in the future without this basic feature, I hate switching media players everytime i want to listen to my own tracks.
I’m sad

Local media is not implemented at this time but it is still something we're looking into for a future release. -
Inappropriate?Hurry up Spotify, because Last.fm started the implementation of a player for the local music collection already:
http://blog.last.fm/2009/03/11/introd...
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate? Can you estimate a timeline when a such feature would be anvailable in spotify?
-
Inappropriate? The only thing that is keepeing me from buying a premium spotify account is the lack of support for local media. If you would add that support I would go to Pressbyrån and buy premium asap! (You NEED to support credit cards without credit...)
-
Inappropriate?OK maybe not actual playing of it, but maybe a way to import them. So that it doesn't actually use the local song, just finds the spotify streaming version of it.
