Third party plugins/extensions?

I don't know if this has been asked before, or if it is even possible but it would be great if third party developers could create their own plugins/extensions for Spotify (maybe only make it available to premium members?). This way developers can add their own features to this (great btw :D) player. I can imagine this would also increase interest as communities grow based around sharing plugins.
