Very low volume using Spotify, but not any other software.
It seems that when I run Spotify I can't get the same volumelevel as I do using any other software or online content with sound, anyone seen this before? Tried searching through the settings but there's more or less nothing I can configure.

I’m sad

Inappropriate?http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/to...
"We are also doing volume normalization, which right now causes Spotify to have lower volume then other applications.
We are definitely working on how we can do volume normalization better, but for now we can't comment on any details. I talking to developers and will get back here when we have more information."
My bad, hope you'll get it fixed.
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate?i have this same problem and currently its the only thing i don't like about spotify i don't really even use it much anymore because even if i turn my master volume all the way up its not very loud and then everything else is too loud please fix this!

Inappropriate? It would be nice if an employee could tell us about the progress regarding this issue (low level due to "normalization” and the lack of option to turn it of).
-
Inappropriate?I thought the low volume was because the wanted to make the ads higher?!
-
No, that’s probably not the reason. The volume is low because they want all songs to play back at the same RMS-level. I (and others) am requesting the option to turn it off in order to get full level from the software. -
-
Inappropriate? Please please please Spotify, please provide an option to disable the normalization.
As others have noted, normalization based on the RMS of a wide range of sources will basically lower the number of bits used for the tracks with an over average RMS, which will in turn increase the noise floor when people adjust their amplifiers to compensate (not to mention all the people who are maxing their sound card amplifiers already and don't have that option).
A visual guide:

If it's punch and power for your advertisements you want, just compress/limit the hell out of them and I can assure you they will cut through the music -- radio stations are doing this every day (and they usually compress the whole stream, including the music, so you would even have and advantage here since you, hopefully, don't compress our precious audio material).
As for paying users the advertisement argument is effectivly moot, so there I see absolutely no reason not to provide that check-box, unless you actually did destructively process the audio files.
Please consider these arguments, and if you have the time comment on them that would be an added bonus :)
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Ok, so I'm not an audio encoding genious, but to me it seems weird that normalization would make everything silent. So normalize it all you want and then amplify it all by 200% afterwards? I'd rather lower the volume a bit myself than be frustrated by not being to able to hear the music and consequently not use the service at all. What am I missing?
-
You are missing that this issue has already been resolved. Volume is a bit higher and normalization is optional (check Edit - preferences). -
Uhm. I tend to disagree. The volume is still too low. They have to increase it a LOT for me to find the issue resolved. -
Then disable normalization and you are set. -
For me the volume level is very ok now, even with normalization turned on! @Samuelf: Do you have some examples where volume level is too low for you? Could you post the Spotify URIs of these tracks here? -
Inappropriate? My volume is absolutely terrible! I turn it up to maximum and I'm still barely able to hear the music. It makes no difference whatsoever if I turn off normalisation. This is on my work computer wich runs XP 64 mBits. It works fine on my home computer wich uses Vista 32 mBits.
I’m frustrated
