When will we see Spotify on our mobile phones (and mp3 players with internet)?
Today the technology goes really fast. All the new mobile phones are getting real internet so they can get internet for free so just think if you could get Spotify on it. Unlimited music on your mobile phone (or ipod touch). If Spotify came out for mobile phones I would get a iPod touch in one sec. You will never need to put any music on it, you will have everything streamed for you.
Everyone would get it. It would knockout all illegal music downloading if you could get it for free where ever you want it (maybe not all but really really much). Everyone would win on it so start making one =D

Inappropriate?Yeah, that's one of the key issues all streaming services have (there are others around you know, Rhapsody, Napster, Last FM, Deezer to name but a few). The problem so far is that no country (as far as I know) has a mobile phone 3G network good enough to support a service like this without timeouts and music gaps.
You'll have to wait a year or two, or in worst case three, for network capacity to improve.
Then, when networks speeds improve and become cheaper, you'll have to deal with content not being generated by users but by companies (e g Spotify) which means albums will take time to show up, and there will always be a lot of albums missing. Because the company doesn't care as long as you pay.
User generated content = the only true way, still.

Last.fm works fine on my iPhone 3G! -
Spotify works well on my computer when I connect through bluetooth to my 3G-mobile network (384 kbit/s) here in Sweden. There is only a bit longer response time. It should work well in most cases, as the bitrate of the songs is 160 kbit/s. -
Inappropriate?I would not agree that user generated content is the only way to go. People visit restaurants, and does not only cook for themselves, Spotify reminids me of an enormous "all you can eat" restaurant. You pay the entrance fee and then you are free to consume as much as you wish of whatever there is to grab. But things that aren't there - you can't consume these.
Spotify needs a MP3 player but this "all you can eat" idea in the music industry is really appealing and will stop a lot of people from file sharing. Impressive!

Inappropriate?I can't stream music at work, but have free Internet access in my Windows Mobile phone. I would rock to use the phone to stream music.
Since I can't use spotify at work, where I listen to music the most, I'm uncertain whether to continue purchase premium (Commercials don't really work for -
Inappropriate?Spotify is looking for S60 developers: https://www.spotify.com/en/about/jobs...
S60 is the platform Nokia use in their mobile phones, so it's probably just a question of time until Spotify is available for mobile phones.
I’m excited

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate?Well.. at least here in Finland the 3G and EDGE -network coverages are large enough to supply a mobile version of Spotify...

Inappropriate?HSDPA is there for those of us that have handsets that can make use of it. Why people still get wet about S60 is beyond me, I have a WM6 device and quite frankly it does anything that a Symbian or iPhone device can and better (except the iPhone interface - yummy).
I use last.fm on my mobile and it works fine even on GPRS, so bring it on, Spotify has a much better interface than last.fm. I see that Spotify have released the API so it's only a matter of time before we will see mobile clients.
-
Inappropriate?Well because the fact remains that Window Mobile i slooow and buggy makes people crave for Symbian
go figure...
I’m amused
-
Inappropriate?Yeah, I get what you're saying, but WM6 is so versatile. Anyway, we're sliding off topic here.

Inappropriate?I'd love Spotify on my iPhone even if it was restricted to WiFi access only.
-
Inappropriate?soon they even got spotify up and running on android

Inappropriate?I am currently on Vodafone in the UK, and am eligible for an upgrade from next week. I'd guess the best of Vodafone UK's latest phones would be the Nokia N97, HTC Magic or Samsung Jet.
If I'm looking to try to use spotify account on a phone, is one of these likely to be better than another? -
Inappropriate?Glenn i have no idea of what the heck you are asking but am trying to say something that might help you after the break
well, depends on what you like, do you want a Google based Phone aka HTC Magic, or want to have a samsung based phone or a nokia based phone
the samsung jet is one of the fastest phones and also has a OLED screen and a good camera after the specs
you should wait for samsung i7500 galaxy when it comes, it is a android phone and might cost less than both the htc magic, nokia N97 and the samsung jet
it to has a OLED screen and a good camera
and for Spotify for Mobile support, atm it looks like it will come to Android first, then the iPhone and meybe to samsung platform and nokia platform
i think it will come to android first why?, its a open system, many mobile manufacturers are backing android, and they have it up and running
myself is waiting for samsung i7500,

Inappropriate? Thanks wiak - it was really a question of which phone operating system was most likely to have Spotify first. Waiting for the i7500 sounds like the thing to do as things stand - as Android does seem like the best option.
-
Inappropriate?i've been thinking of getting a new phone for a couple of weeks as well and have pretty much settled for waiting for the i7500 - it's really looking very promising

I’m eager

Inappropriate?looks like it will come first to android
http://translate.google.com/translate...
finaly good news for fans of open source mobile operating system android, why should iPhone allways get everything first???, iPhone is so OVERRATED and OVERPRICED ;)
I’m excited
-
even tho' i'm thinking of getting a new phone soon and very much leaning towards android, i would have prioritized windows mobile and symbian (or even iphone) before android simply because while the os is looking very good there isn't really any really good hardware going around running it -
Inappropriate?mr.qs huh?
many windows mobile phones use same hardware as the htc magic
Htc Touch Diamond2 = windows mobile phone with same hardware as htc magic hehe
the Samsung i7500 looks be be exellent, it has everything a highend phone has, OLED check, 5MP camera check, 8GB internal space check etc ;)
btw did you know that both spotify and android support ogg vorbis?
its a match made in heaven :D
that might be one of the reasons they support android first, why? android has built in ogg vorbis support =D
I’m happy
