Why such a limited catalog ?
Just joined a premium account from Sweden, and i am a bit disappointed:
The library is VERY limited. Why is that ?
If you do a compariosn with napster, napster has at least 2-3 times the amount of albums available for a certain artist, than Spotify has.
For example the newest album available for Blank & Jones dates back to 2003!
This is not what i expect from a premium service..
Why is that ? I would belive, that if you had an agreement with a label, the discography of those artists belonging to that label should be available ?
Is it because the app is still in beta, and the backcatalog will be added overtime, or will it be like this always ?
A suggestion: Would be nice with a song counter going something like "now indexing xxxx number of songs", so we could se the progress of the library.

Yes this will change, in the future we aim to have all the worlds music however as we are currently in beta we are still updating our catalogue.
We are working really hard to grow our catalogue as quickly as possible by constantly adding new content so you can get more and the most recent music.
We really like your counter idea too, thanks.
I’m excited

Inappropriate? If you do the search "year:1900-2009" in Spotify then you can see the progress of the library from day to day for yourself.
In Germany there are only 1.841.423 tracks available at the moment (2008-10-19).
How many tracks are available in your countries?
I’m curious
-
Inappropriate?Hello Andreas,
Did your suggested search, and in Sweden the number is 1.844.990.
So seems like the same amount available as in Germany.
It's a long way up to Napster's aprox. 6.000.000 songs :(
Not to sound pessimistic, but when regarding music, the quantity matters. I would like to listen to what i want, when i want.
Sad to find only a few albums available for each artist.
I like Spotify, but it is far from "Last.fm on acid" as i was told it would be :(
Too bad Napster is limited to certain countries.
Out of curiosity: Why would you prefer Spotify over Napster, when Napster is available in you country ? -
Inappropriate?I am just testing Spotify and at the moment i prefer Napster over Spotify because of it's sheer amount of tracks and because of the better sound quality.
But my biggest complain about Spotify is that they did not tell us about the small music library BEFORE we signed up for the Premium service. Seeing it after paying first was not fair...!
I’m annoyed

Inappropriate?Yup, agree m8.
Well, hopefully the service will develop to a real premium service when it comes out of beta ;)
As it is now, really not worth the money in my oppinion. A lot of free alternatives out there ;)
Really can't see how it would compete with established services like Napster where available.

Inappropriate? Thanks for pouring water on my worried soul. I will then be patient, and look forward for the changes to come :)

Pouring water on someones worried soul or rubbing salt into someones wounds, that's the question here! ;-) -
Inappropriate?I think the catalog for Argentina is the worst of all: Only 1.241.896 tracks available.
80% of tracks and albums of the Top List from the Home Panel are restricted...
I’m sad
-
Spotify is available in Argentina already? Wow, they start to spread the world! That's cool... :-) -
Inappropriate?Keep us posted about the development of the catalogue. I'd like to read about it on a blog. I don't know how you proceed but if you for example strike a deal with a label (aggregator), that's interesting stuff to read...

KidRichter,
I'll try and keep everyone as updated as possible to major developments both on our blog and here on the forums.
