Wrong artist name for The Prodigy
Electro/punk artists The Prodigy are mixed up with hip hop artist Prodigy. Please correct this with the correct name The Prodigy as is lists albums and tracks wrong.
This also makes scrobling to last.fm wrong.

Inappropriate?spotted the same problem here ...
A similar issue , is "Bent" mixed trip-hop artist with the hiphop/rap artist
-
Inappropriate?I'm having this problem too! Please fix it, as I'm not able to play The Prodigy music because of scrobbling issues now.
I’m frustrated
-
I reported it via the "report a bug" feature (that's now gone missing) in Spotify a long time ago. I've heard absolutely nothing about it; no reply, no fix, nothing. -
Inappropriate?Come on spotify, The Prodigy aren't exactly an unknown band. sort this
-
Inappropriate?PLEASE.
I really hope you could fix this. I can't listen to THE Prodigy since it scrobbles to my last.fm as Prodigy. I HATE when my last.fm stats get messed up.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I agree, this really does need sorting.
-
Inappropriate?I can't believe this is still an issue. It would take a minute to fix.
-
Inappropriate?Please fix this!
-
Inappropriate? The Prodigy got mentioned in the latest blog as The Prodigy, so i thought that maybe they had changed the name, but no.
They have even added music from the rapper Prodigy, so now its even more confusing.
Please separate the group and the rapper already, just by renaming the group to the prodigy!!

I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I've had similar problems with other artists some examples:
The UK indie band The Klaxons is not the accordian band The Klaxons
The excellent french electro band Justice is not the generic gangsta-rapper Just Ice
The swedish electro-pop duo The Knife is not a U.S heavy metal band The Knife.
However all seem to have been merged together, which is just awful.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? The band Múm from Iceland is wrongfully named MUM in Spytify's catalog.
When I listen to my favorite band in Spotify, they are scrobled to http://www.last.fm/music/MUM and not http://www.last.fm/music/m%C3%BAm
If this thread should teach us anything, it should be a quick and efficient way to report these errors. They should be quick to fix and everybody is loosing if the errors stay unfixed.
Spotify: How do you want us to act, regarding errors in your catalog?
I’m lethargic
-
Inappropriate?Would be nice if they replied, even if it was just to say they weren't going to fix it :-/
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?FIX ! FIX ! FIX ! FIX ! FIX ! FIX ! FIX ! FIX ! FIX ! FIX ! FIX ! FIX ! FIX ! FIX ! FIX !
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Probably go for support@spotify.com or premium@spotify.com
-
I now sendt this mail to premium (I'm a premium subscriber)
"Hi Spotify!
Where do we go to get wrong album- or artist-info fixed?
You have this kind of long thread over at you're support forum:
http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/to...
The Spotify catalog is full of minor errors that messes up our Last.fm-libraries.
This should be so trivial for you to fix and it makes a big deal to us, the users.
The last one I came over, was "The Blow" vs. "Blow".
Not the same artist.
"Blow" is a rock band on ATS-records, found here: www.blow-rock.com
"The Blow" is not a rock band at all: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blow
How can we, the users, report these problems to get quick results?
Hemo" -
And Jude at Spotify replyes:
"Hi Hemo,
"We are aware that there are metadata errors in our catalog, and we are looking into creating a system to help us manage reports like yours and to fix the errors in a fast and efficient way.
Many errors are fixable, but would then be overwritten by the incorrect information again when we receive a metadata update from the record label. We will fix these issues as soon as possible, along with the problem of same or similarly named bands being joined together.
Best wishes,
Jude"
Hopefully this answer will be explanatory to other users, and preferably Jude and the other good people at Spotify would be a bit more active here in the future. -
Inappropriate?I think they have an automated system that removes "the" from artist names, and as such it mixes bands that are separated by this word alone.
Im also guessing it might be quite hard to change how the system works, because it will probably require a lot of time and result in less time to create other features that gives more publicity.
It's still annoying as hell though.
-
Incorrect, Esbjörn. There's lots of bands correctly labelled with "The" in Spotify's album, like "The Chemical Brothers". -
I described it wrong. What I meant was that when it groups songs and albums to artists, it ignores "the". Which makes "The Prodigy" and "Prodigy" the same artists in Spotify's eyes. I guess it might just be random that it decided to link it all to "Prodigy" instead of "The Prodigy". Maybe "Prodigy" were first to enter the system? -
Ah, that makes sense. Perhaps you're correct. Nonetheless, Spotify needs to correct the problem with "The Prodigy" and fix the underlying issue. -
Inappropriate?This is so annoying.
for example Swedish Promoe's track Mammas Gata which features Timbuktu is tagged as a track by Timbuktu. And I'm specially annoyed that the Finnish reggae band Puppa J & Tasoittavat comes up on last.fm as just Tasoittavat.
There should be a system where people can vote for the right tag, and if a right amount of people vote for a certain tag it should change t it automatically. Or something like that.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? This is ridiculous, it would take literally minutes for spotify to implement a "this is wrong" button.
-
I take it you aren't a software developer :) -
Guess again. OK, maybe more than a minute but its hardly a massive job. They'd need to add a "flagged" column to the database and increment it by one every time a track/artist is flagged. Then all they'd have to do is sort by flagged to see which artists need fixed - simple! Anyway, I didn't say how many minutes :-P -
Inappropriate?there is also a black metal band called Thorns who are credited as "The Thorns", the band have never been called that, and it was not the intended meaning of the name.
I’m frustrated
-
And speaking about Thorns, I was happy as a clam when I discovered the reunification concert CD of one of the most important black metal bands on Spotify.
From the search results I excitedly clicked the Emperor band name and then proceeded to listen through the entire Live Inferno album. Good times. But every concert has its end: The followup album to Emperor - Live Inferno being put on by Spotify is - and I shit you not - "The Emperor Speaks - The World's Largest Carousel Band Organ".
Roberta and Jonathan, I miss you. -
Inappropriate? Also there are song of Franz Ferdinand misstagged like Take me Out or 40ft, and from the killers, the song Glamorous indie rock & roll
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? And I just found the most stupid artist problem I've seen on Spotify: They have both male modern classical Icelandic musician Ólafur Arnalds and female folk Icelandic musician Ólöf Arnalds on Ólafur's page.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? No matter what solution the Spotify developers opt for, this needs to be solved quickly! Last.fm now thinks I'm a rap loving gangster because of all the "Prodigy" tunes Spotify has been scrobbling.
I’m furious
-
Inappropriate? This is really annoying, just stumbled into this. Takes incredibly much time to fix this......
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate? If you look at the email response posted above, it would appear that the error is down to the record labels misnaming their own artists:
"Many errors are fixable, but would then be overwritten by the incorrect information again when we receive a metadata update from the record label. We will fix these issues as soon as possible, along with the problem of same or similarly named bands being joined together."
-
What I don't understand is that why can't those metadata updates be fixed with somekind of database correction script. I dont' think these updates are even frequent if record labels don't fix them by themselves. -
Inappropriate?Last.fm do seem to be correcting this now - I've got 5 plays listed today for "The Prodigy" despite it still being "Prodigy" in Spotify. A "report mis-tag" button is definitely a number one priority for Spotify in case this kind of thing happens again.
I’m unsure
-
Yeah, Last.fm have a user-made auto-correction system. You just have to go to the track page, and click that "Suggest a correction" link at the end of the right column. -
Inappropriate?Give listeners an option to report bad tag-data.
When multiple users has reported the same bad meta data, then check to see if you agree with you're listeners.
If you agree that the meta data actually are wrong, then go to the source (the record company?) and have them correct it.
The Record Company can not keep hurting theire artist by delivering wrong data to Spotify.
This like if a book publisher keep printing new editions of a book, without correcting the spelling error in the authors name. -
Inappropriate?Just wanted to input into the thread to hopefully highlight the ongoing issue with the Spotify library / dev team.
Please change 'Prodigy' to 'The Prodigy'. One of my fave groups but I won't listen to them on Spotify due to the Last.FM link and it mucking up my recos.
A "bad tag - report" button would be cool.
-
Bit the bullet last night and played The Prodigy The fat of the land and although in Spotify they are still displayed as 'Prodigy' the scrobbled tracks read 'The Prodigy'.... yay! Not sure if this is the same for all their tracks... no time to try today but thought I'd mention it. -
That's good news Tom! -
Inappropriate?I have this problem with "The Prodigy", "Múm" and Norwegian folk-rock band "Gåte".
The albums by "Gåte" are listed together with those of a project from New Zealand called "Gate". I agree that both should pop up when searching for either, but they are two different bands! It shouldn't be so difficult to recognize diacritics and make to different artist entries for them.
Yes, it messes up my last.fm listings. Yes, it is a big deal.
Btw, am I alone in seeming to remember that the listings for Múm used to be alright...?
I’m agreeing with the guy who compared this to getting the name of a books author wrong. It's bad!
-
The two "mums" have been split now. -
What do you mean? -
I meant to say that the "This also makes scrobling to last.fm wrong." issue as described in initial post is fixed.
The artist name is still displayed wrong in Spotify though... -
Inappropriate? Not for The Knife it isn't...
-
Inappropriate?I suggest opening a new thread for this...
-
There already are... several in fact. Just because The Prodigy works OK now doesn't mean that the original problem (mixing [artist] with The [artist]) is fixed :) But yes, this thread is no longer needed. -
Inappropriate? It is now unfixed, it now scrobbles as "Prodigy" for me again. I am listening to "The Prodigy's latest album that was just added to spotify
The best and most permanent solution would be that Spotify renames the electro group to its proper name "The Prodigy" and thereby separate all their music from the rapper named "Prodigy" not only on Last.fm but on Spotify as well..
Its about time now, 8 months later.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?You're right Forcen. I just tried :
Invaders 'Prodigy'
Experience Expanded 'Prodigy'
More Music for the jilted.. 'Prodigy'
Interestingly...
Fat of the land 'The Prodigy'
Always Outnumbered... 'The Prodigy'
Shame, their best albums are all tagged wrong :(
I quite agree, let's just have 'The Prodigy' titled as 'The Prodigy' please Spotify! It is the bands name after all!
I’m increasingly frustrated
-
Inappropriate? How come after 8 months this still hasn't been corrected?
-
Inappropriate?I really don't know, strikes me as an easy one to fix, after all...
-It is only metadata on a few hundred specific songs. Hell, send me the requisite SQL records in csv format and I'll do it myself, from memory.
-It doesn't affect any other band called 'The Prodigy' because one doesn't exist..
I'm guessing that the oh so famous hip hop star 'Prodigy' (who is anything but a prodigy IMO) is chucking the Spotify crew a few quid ;)
Seriously, if I ever form a band I'm going to call it 'Who'.
I’m increasingly frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I hate it when tracks I listen to are scrobbled incorrectly (eg. 'Artist - Track Name - remix' instead of 'Artist - Track Name (remix)') and the fact that listening to The Prodigy scrobbles as Prodigy is perhaps even more annoying. It can't be that difficult to actually sort it out.
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?Another name shared by several artists (and that needs to be split): Pain http://open.spotify.com/artist/0hGpZy...
-
Inappropriate? There is still problem with the Artist "The Knife" and "KnIFe"
