Currencies other than USD
Do you (or when will you) support currencies other than US dollars?
It seems most things I ask for are 'top of your priority list'. Is this another one???

Inappropriate?Multi-currency is something we're definitely going to do, but it's a big feature and definitely not at the top of the list at this point. Our hope is to get it knocked out this year, but it's hard to forecast at this point.
Sorry I don't have better news for you.
I’m wishing for more hours in the day

Inappropriate?Nat,
I really, really, really would like to use sterling as my currency.
Please say that this will be implemented within the next month.
Please, please, please!
Tim
I’m hopeful!
-
Inappropriate?Tim, this is really important to us right now (it's one of the most requested features), but I can't make a "this month" promise. If the Kickstart goes well, it'll be sooner rather than later, though!
I’m excited

Inappropriate?+1 for British Pound Sterling please!
-
Inappropriate?I would love euro and sterling to be supported!
-
Inappropriate?Looks like you would make a lot of people happy if multi currency came...sooner rather than later.
I’m cheeky
-
Inappropriate? We definitely hear you! Trust me, we'll be as happy as any of you - the more money our clients collect, the better Spreedly does!
I’m eager

Inappropriate? We've made a baby step in the right direction, and done a lot of research into multi-currency. We just figured out a simple intermediate step that I'd like to run by you, as I think it might fit your case and I'm interested in feedback:
The plan is to do what we're calling "variable currency" before tackling full-on "multi-currency". Variable currency basically means you would pick a currency when you set up a production site, and then all transactions in that site would happen in that currency. So you could pick USD, or EUR, or AUD, etc., and prices would be in that currency, that's the currency you'd see on your dashboard, etc. You wouldn't be able to collect in multiple currencies, but you could pick the currency that best fits your situation.
This wouldn't be the final solution - we definitely want to add full multi-currency support - but our thinking is that it will cover a lot of cases and it mostly involves work we have to do for multi-currency anyhow.
Thoughts?

Inappropriate? This would work for us. Especially with the likelihood of full multi-currency support down the line.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Nathaniel,
That would be perfect for me! Thank you!
I really look forward to using your system - the thought of having to code it myself was starting to haunt me!
Now, when would you think it will be ready? :)
Regards,
Tim
I’m very happy!
-
Inappropriate?Much sooner than full multi-currency! We're actually working on it now, so assuming we don't get derailed or run into any unforeseen roadblocks, it should be soon.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate? Not sure about that solution. Seems a little pointless. Are you saying you could offer someone a product for £25p/month but that they would be charged the equivalent in USD?
-
Inappropriate? The way that I understand it is that you choose your currency at the beginning and that is what you use from then on. If you choose sterling, then that is your currency.
What they will offer in the future is the ability to offer plans in a variety of currencies and also collect in a variety of currencies. -
Inappropriate?Correct - whatever currency you choose at the beginning will be used for all prices in your site (until we add multi-currency). That includes when transactions run - we'll pass GBP to your gateway instead of USD. So it's just like what we have now *except* you can choose (at the beginning) to use a currency other than USD for everything. Make sense?
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Nathaniel - just wondering if you knew approx time frame for the interim multi currency functionality? Are we talking days, weeks or months?
(Please God, let it be hours...!)
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Drumroll please: it's live! http://blog.spreedly.com/2009/5/29/va...
