I dropped Sprint 3 months ago, why did I just get a charge?
I see that my credit card has been charged $200 bucks, even though I dropped Sprint at the beginning of January. That is, AT&T promises that they shut off the service for me when I switched.
Now I can't log into my account on sprint.com (because I don't have an account any more). So I can't figure out what the bill is for. What's going on? I'd like to know what I'm being charged for. I'm also really upset that I'm having to dig to figure this out. It's abusing my trust and credit card number to charge me without explaining why.

Inappropriate? Was your contract with Sprint finished? $200 is their early termination fee.
-
Inappropriate? It wasn't finished with them, so it was probably an early termination fee. I'm still dismayed that they didn't contact me to tell me why it was being done, or even send me a bill!
-
Inappropriate? If you ported your number to another company, the other company cancels your account for you, usually the representatives that your porting to should warn you that the other company may charge a termination fee if you are still in contract.
-
Yep, and AT&T did warn me. It's unfortunate that Sprint didn't send me any kind of notification or bill. Mostly I'm surprised they legally can charge my credit card and not send me a bill. -
Inappropriate?Well, they only can charge it if you set auto payments on from before, and they should have sent a bill unless your address has changed or you chose to do paperless bills before also.

Inappropriate?Hi Sakujou,
I understand how this was technically possible, and I understand that I had to pay a termination fee. I'm from Lenexa, Kansas, and I've had Sprint since high-school. I've never really been pleased with their customer service, but I've always had great coverage and a bit of hometown loyalty. Getting an iPhone got me to switch to AT&T.
My issue is how Sprint handled the disconnect.
I don't hear anything from Sprint for months, not even a nice note saying they're sad to see me go. Then I get a charge on my credit card. It seems like a lot and I have no way to check on what it's for. I can't log into the Sprint website and I didn't receive any kind of notification, just the charge. So I have to go through the process of calling Sprint, and let me tell you, when you're not a customer, or prospective customer, those phone trees aren't built for you. All that time wasted, just to confirm what a bill was for. All of that could have been prevented, and this relationship could have been a positive parting if Sprint had sent me a good-bye note, and a bill.
I’m ashamed of my home team.

Inappropriate?I would have suggested going into the store, as long as you have your account number, or if you had your social security # on your account they could have pulled your account and told you what you were billed for etc.
But yes, I had one customer come in and get angry at me because they were billed for $400 and it was automatically pulled from their credit card because they had auto payment, and their problem wasn't that they had to pay it, it was they didn't have enough money at the time to pay it and they overdrawed or something like that.
But I yes, I think early termination fees should always have a bill sent to the owner and they should pay themselves regardless of if they have auto payment or not. It's not like Sprint should care if they pay right away or not, give them a couple months to pay, if Sprint doesn't do that because they think the customer will never pay, theres a thing called collections if they have to resort to it.
But hey, you live in Kansas why not goto their HQ and give the proposal :P
-
Well, I don't live there anymore. ;) So here I am, giving them a proposal on Get Satisfaction. Thanks for understanding. What is it that you do for Sprint? It sounds like you work in a store. -
Inappropriate?I had a similar thing happen when I left Verizon for AT&T (and the iPhone). I couldn't log-in to my account to check the details of the charges, and I had to call them to find out why they had charged me.
I wonder if this is standard practice for these companies when you break the contract early? I was pretty surprised that 1) they didn't do more to keep me with some kind of counter offer and b) they didn't send me a piece of paper that explained why they were charging my credit card. -
Inappropriate?Yes I am just a retail sales person haha, but since no one else was helping on the sprint part of this site, I was like might as well :)
Ya the early termination fee is the same with all companies, if you cancel they auto charge you $200 per line if you aren't out of contract. I think AT&T Prorates though so if you have had your phone for 1 year they only charge $100...not too sure though.
