6.5.1 b13 on WM6.1 returns "An unexpected error occurred..."
I have upgraded from Sprite v2.2.2, build 2280 to sprite 6.5.4.13. With the prior version I had no trouble backing up my PPC Phone (AT&T Fuze). However, with the new version, Sprite consitently crashes when it attempts a standard backup 27 seconds into the "Finalizing Backup Index", prior to the mandatory device reset.
The message is "An unexpected error occurred. If the problem persists visit http://www.spritemobile.com/support/s..."

Inappropriate?Hi there,
Please upgrade to our latest version 6.5.4.14. You can download this version from here: http://www.spritesoftware.com/product...
thanks,
German -
I have updated to version 6.5.4.16 but still have the same problem. I have an HTC touch viva with all the original software. -
Inappropriate?I still have this problem too although i already use version 6.5.4.14. I use Samsung Omnia with the latest ROM i900DXIA5 WM 6.1.

Inappropriate?Hi Dave,
Could you please e-mail us your log file to helpdesk@spritesoftware.com log files are stored in the TEMP directory of your device.
Thanks,

Inappropriate?I have the same exact problem

Inappropriate?Hi, I have had the same problem on WM6.0 with the latest version of SB (german). My workaround is:
- go to "benutzdef. Backup (userdef. Backup?)
-> Systemdaten (systemdata?)
-> Systemeinstellungen (systemsettings?)
-> erweitert (advanced?)
-> uncheck Credential Manager
Voila, my backup works -
Inappropriate?I have tried the workaround above on my Fuze (new AT&T ROM) - that has not worked. Is there a permanent fix out there?
-
Inappropriate?Almost the same exact problem as the original post...
I have a Sprint Touch Pro and a few weeks ago I purchased Sprite Backup and Terminator (HTC Upgrade Special ver. 6.5.4, Build 16) for it and it worked great. Recently I upgraded the Rom on my Touch Pro to an OS version that is based on WM6.5.
Everything on the phone works great but when I start Sprite Backup it goes to the "Preparing for backup" (Finalizing backup index) screen and counts up to about 27 or 28 seconds and then it crashes and gives the message "An unexpected error occurred. If the problem persists visit http://www.spritemobile.com/support/s...
When you close the error message it then returns to the main screen on the phone.
Anyone have any ideas why its not working?
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Hello Jeff,
I suspect that the problem you are encountering will be due to using an unofficial version of WIndows Mobile 6.5. We do not support unofficial ROM's and Operating Systems - so there is no fix for your issue, unless you revert to an official release of Windows Mobile.
To anybody else encountering this problem, who is running an official release of Windows Mobile, I suggest you contact the support team directly at helpdesk@spritesoftware.com
Best regards,

Inappropriate?I've got a HTC Touch Pro using a custom ROM, and have been for over 6 months.
I'm currently using Sprite Backup v 6.5.4 build 16.
A few days ago I did a restore, and noticed that my speed dials didn't get imported correctly. I didn't think anything of it at the time...
Today when I performed a backup, I got the same error message. I looked at my BackupLog.txt file and found the following:
Unhandled std::exception caught in unhandled_std_exception(): File format not recognised blobInformation.NumberOffset == 0x0000001C
At: .\SpeedDialMigrate.cpp:616
So I unchecked "Speed Dial" in custom backup and it worked! So, for now, this is my workaround.
Hopefully this can help somebody else...

Inappropriate?I got a similar message when I tried to perform a restore when in flight mode.

Inappropriate?I'm using 23071 version of WM6.5 on an HTC Kaiser. Unchecking "speed dials" under the PIM portion of the backup allowed it to generate the backup index without the error.
It's always easy for a company to say "Your running a customized version of the rom and we don't offer support for those." This ignores the fact I own a registered version of your product and you don't seem to mind my customized rom when you want us to beta test new versions of your program.
So glad we could act as guinea pigs once again and find errors you'll need to deal with even though you don't "support us". Pretty sure the speed dial issue has nothing to do with whether the rom is customized or not as I've had to uncheck it on previous versions of your product to make backup's work under new rom versions.
I’m aggravated
-
Inappropriate?I can't even uncheck the speed dial successfully w/o getting the unexpected error. When I try to uncheck it, it keeps re-checking it until finally the error pops up.

Inappropriate?Hi Beefstew83,
That doesn't even slightly sound related, turning the tick box on and off a few times, isn't the same as running the actual process. I know our staff will be keen to isolate what is happening there, almost sounds like a memory fault.
Guys, It looks like we have lumped a few issues people are having due to ROM's, an external application called credent clashing on a particular Sprite build, and now an unknown selection issue here together in a single thread, and therefore confusiing a few people,
Firstly, can you please open tickets here
http://spritesoftware.crmdesk.com/
We actually have a team of support engineers and testers to help you there,
I know, we need to streamline the Sprite Web Support pages, so we can funnel you to intense help systems like CRMDesk easier, and this should be updated soon by the web guys,
Also, yes we do test on many many ROMs, we have hundreds of devices here, but unfortunately all the ROM combinations, and app combinations on all devices can never be tested, and we do end up with edge cases due to the millions of users.
We hope to find where the issue is as fast as possible with you guys, and through CRMDesk we do, quickly

Inappropriate?Julz,
I may have been using the PocketPC version (if it's even different than the WinMo version). I dl'ed a trial version of the Power Pack and installed the 655 Backup and it worked with no problems.
Well, a slight problem--it said it couldn't back up a system file on the SD card associated with Media Player on and I didn't even ask it to back up the SD card. I don't consider that a big problem tho.
Beefstew83 -
Inappropriate?Thanks Beefstew83,
If you can take a few minutes and open a ticket on CRM we can still look at your logs and see whats happening with SD card,
Would like to get it 100% for you,
Many thanks

Inappropriate?i recoverd from this error by doing a custom backup and deselecting everything in the 'personal database' section except the pim.vol entry. i think this happens when yo select both/all entrys in this section. and thats why sprite by default only select the pim.vol entry.
I’m happy to be rescued without blabla support
-
Inappropriate?Hi Amin,
I'll pass this on to QA for verification,
If there is a bug in the tree logic, they should be able to fix for next release.
Many thanks
Julian
