Backup-restore with OS Upgrade
Just upgraded my HTC TouchCruise OS from Windows Mobile 6.0 to 6.1, Sprite backed up my contacts before, and now the program says backup was done on a different Operating System and won't finalise restoring. What to do?

Inappropriate?Dear Juha,
Thank you for contacting Sprite Software. Unfortunately Sprite Backup 5.1 is not fully compatible with Windows Mobile 6.1. You might be able to restore your data, but this cannot be guaranteed.
If you cannot restore successfully then you have two options;
1) a) Revert your ROM back to it's original version
b) Restore your backup file
c) Purchase and install the latest version of Sprite Backup 6.5
d) Backup using that
e) Upgrade your ROM
f) Restore with the normal procedure
2) a) Rebuild your device from scratch
b) Purchase Sprite Backup 6.5
c) Backup using that and be assured that when using the latest version of Sprite Backup, you won't have these issues with migration again

Inappropriate?Hoefkens, I am dealing with your question through your other post.
-
Inappropriate?I have the same problem, I don't mind purchasing the newer version, but with the trial 6.5 I am not able to restore valuable information i backup with the version supplier with my HTC cruise (HK version).
I have very important info and required to be able to read time from backup files again, Your prompt assistance will be greatly appreciated. -
Inappropriate? What is the error message you receive Ken when you try to restore? Also, did you create the backup file on a different OS?
-
Inappropriate? It just can't locate the backed up files on my MicroSD Card.
I backed it up on Windows Mobile 6.0 professional and now upgraded to 6.1 professional.
Is there a way to read back the data from all my back up files, thanks. It is very important for me to be able to get back the data from my backup files. Thanks. -
Inappropriate?You can read the data via Sprite Explorer on your PC, you can download Sprite Explorer free of charge via the following link;
http://store.spritesoftware.com/downl...
Are you searching for your backup file manually or are you allowing Sprite Backup to automatically search for it?
Thanks

Inappropriate? Thanks Gina for your assistance. I transfer the file to my PC via the USB and now the backup files (probably modified during the transfer to the PC) now ends with "232648e7.menc" after ".exe". The explorer could not read the files with the message "Invalid Password or Corrupt files"
Is there anyway to read the files back again. Thanks again.

Inappropriate?Hi Ken,
I spoke to one of our developers about your issue and this is what they had to say;
"The problem is that he has Storage Card encryption set. Microsoft implemented Storage card encryption in Windows Mobile 6 but they have a really big issue that once the device is hard reset all the encryption data is gone and consequently all files cannot be decrypted."
Unfortunately you will not be able to restore this data file.
Thanks

Inappropriate? Thanks for your assistance but I might just need to resort to other forms of backup next time as this is totally frustrating experience.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Hi Ken,
What backup version are you using...
I believe 6.2.2 onwards supports encrypted storage card backup. Bear with us, and we will figure this out for you.
Basically, Windows Mobile introduced a special key used every hard reset of a device. This sets the encryption salts of your storage card.
Sprite Backup is the only application, able to get around encryption. So we are keen to understand what has caused the issue.
Many thanks

Any news yet? Thanks. -
Inappropriate?Hi Ken,
We are still waiting to find out what version of Sprite Backup you are using.
Thanks

Inappropriate?I'll tell you Sprite Backup 5.1 worked perfectly on windows 6.1 it just didn't have PIM data available. I should have never switched because now I have a worthless product that will not restore and and won't do scheduled backups.
THANKS SPRITESOFTWARE for addressing this issue at the speed of a herd of turtles!! -
Inappropriate?I recommend to you use a Myphone service by Microsoft. http://myphone.microsoft.com is a totally free and allow to backup yours sms, emails, contacts and multimedia files. It is a work on wm 6.0 and 6.1. Try to register (I have invitation within 2 days of register).
PS. Sorry for mine English :-/ -
Inappropriate? My question is similar. If I upgrade from Windows Mobile 6 to Windows Mobile 6 and do a restore from the Windows Mobile 5 backup (created with Sprite 6.5), will that work?
I’m confused...

Inappropriate?I have a Similar Question.
I have an AT&T Tilt that was running Windows Mobile 6.0 with Sprite Backup 5.1. I backed up like the site recommended before doing the 6.1 Update (they don't mention that you should Update Sprite Backup to 6.5.4). I did the Update and Windows Mobile 6.1 is working. When I tried to Restore my Data, It asked for a file (.sup or something). I checked your site, and saw that there was a newer version. I downloaded the Eval, but it won't find my backups. I checked the File with Sprite Explorer like you recommended in this post, and it looks good.
If I Purchase the Upgrade, will it find/restore my backup? Am I elligible for the Upgrade price? or the HTC Promo? -
Inappropriate?I was able to restore mine, I ignored the Upgrade file request and it restored. the only problem I have now is that I restored Email too. It says I have 36 unread messages, but there are no accounts listed. If I try to recreate it, it says the name is in use.
Anyone know how to delete hidden Email accounts in Windows Mobile 6.1?
I’m relieved

Inappropriate?Hi,
We released a tool for a previous version of Windows Mobile that dealt with this issue.
I suggest you read this FAQ - http://spritesoftware.crmdesk.com/ans... - for information on the tool, and that you get in touch with us again should the problem persist.
Best regards,

Inappropriate?I got the backup to work after converting to 6.1, but now my old password does not work.
