Black market prices have increased
Eston, Director MI6, reporting. It's roughly 4 in the morning here now in London.
The Directorate has noticed an increase in the prices of black market items over the past few hours; we suspect this has something to do with warring terrorist factions that have driven up the cost of arms over the past few hours due to conflicts on the African continent as well as higher demand of these items from Spymasters in the field.
Furthermore, you may see a difference in your attack and defence sums. We have found vulnerabilities in some of the weapons currently supplied to the black market that have brought down their attack and defence scores.
Black market prices are subject to change on demand as the market fluctuates. The Directorate shall keep all Spymasters updated on any market fluctuations.
An encrypted message for Spymasters in the field is as follows:

looks like gibberish, as x must be either "a" or "i" and therefore is unlikely to be the last letter of a 2 or 3 letter word (in English). -
Yea I have ran it through multiple different possible ciphers and it is coming up as gibberish. Only thing I can think of is he ran it through another thing first but that would make it impossible for us to crack. -
I will assure you this is not gibberish and is certainly more difficult than a monoalphabetic shift cipher (such as rot13 and its variants.) Cryptanalysts were able to break this cipher as early as the 16th century.
I've also left a clue in this page somewhere. -
Nope not gibberish. thx for the challenge, Eston! -
Inappropriate?Tried rot13 and all variants of rot - even tried xor. didnt find anything
-
Inappropriate?Previous lines of communication had been compromised. The Directorate has since modified its cipher techniques. ;)

Inappropriate?*yawn*
Decoded using the key "SPYMASTER":
======Start Decode======
WE HAVE NOTICED THAT MANY ITEMS APPEAR OUT OF BALANCE IN THE CURRENT GAME ECONOMY AND THUS WE HAVE HAD TO WORK TO FIX THESE IMBALANCES LET US KNOW IF YOU SEE ANYTHING ELSE THAT MAY BE OUT OF BALANCE I AM WORKING ON AS MANY OF THESE BALANCE ISSUES AS I CAN SO THE GAME IS MORE ENGAGING AND ENTERTAINING FOR SPYMASTERS IN THE FIELD KEEP ON PLAYING AND TELLING US WHAT YOU FIND IMBALANCED SO I CAN IMPROVE THE GAME AS QUICKLY AS I POSSIBLY CAN ESTON MI SIX
======End Decode=======
The only thing that seems out of place is "Can Eston Mi Six"... but I'm not sure why everything else would decode fine but not that. *shrug* EDIT: NVM, Mi Six = MI6. Haha, leave it to me to eff up the tiny details. =P
For those of you wondering (or taken a hobby in cipher) he used a Vigenere Cipher.

I’m enjoying the fun.

I wondered if he used a Vigenere cipher, but wiki said that it hadn't been cracked till the 18th century so I kept looking! -
@aramina - Damn wikipedia! =P -
There is a small line in wikipedia about some skilled guys cracking it in the 16th. I recognized the code from a "Games for Hackers" (or some such name) book I read tho. -
what was it? one time pad? xor using 'spymaster'? -
Inappropriate?I think this is great, now if it would just not systematically give away 1 of your items to anyone I would start buying some of that super expensive stuff :)
I’m waiting
-
Inappropriate?"balance in the current game economy" is hard to figure out for all games. glad to see that you "noticed that many items" appeared "out of balance"..
How close am I? :)
Keep up the good work
I’m confident
-
When I went to post the above comment the solution hadn't been revealed in my browser.. The "how close am I" seems pointless now, ah well.. -
Inappropriate?Alas, I had been saving my monies, so to speak, in the hardware. Went to cash some of them in - only to loose far more on the return than was on my screen prior (as you don't auto-refresh the whole page) - losing an extra 20% per item.
So if you make changes to the game that could affect funds - post them on the main game page, not just to getsatisfaction.com
I’m frustrated
-
I definitely will when I have that ability on the site. I don't yet :o -
Inappropriate?sad, I was hoping that ciphertext revealed a secret code to unlock something cool. That would be fun ;)
I’m amused
