File storage
Is there a way to store files that can be accessed for posterity. In other words not just sent out in an email but with a link within stafftool?
Many thanks

Inappropriate?Hey Anthony. At this time there is no specific area for just files. However, if you send a message with a file attached, that message will always be available in the messages section on Stafftool with a link to the file (to people who have permission to view the message, that is). You can access the files directly from the message listing, as one of the columns is for attachments and will have an icon if there is a file available, or from the message itself when you click on it. The icon will try to reflect which type of file it is, and when you hold your mouse over the icon there will be a tool tip for the file name and size.
A dedicated file section is something I've got on my list as a possible future addition. Would uploading files by themselves be something that's needed? I started with the attachment approach because from what I've seen, every time you need to upload a file, you also need to notify people about it, so the attachment metaphor made sense. I'm thinking that maybe having a section within messages to show all the attached files or searching for file names or something might be a good way to go. What do you think?

Inappropriate?Hi Toby,
Thanks for the reply. I agree with your statement that generally when uploading a file a notification will also be required so the email attachment makes sense. However there will be occasions when the documents will need to be accessed again and it is this issue that I have been thinking about. For example church meeting minutes, music group song lists are things that we as a church often need to look back on. If there was a way for example, to list all attachments in date order for a particular group -e.g list by date all attachments for the music group, this would probably work well instead of a file upload area. I was originally thinking more of the file upload area since I note in your documentation that email attachments count towards file storage quotas. Therefore I thought that it might work to have a file upload area for each group which could either be accessed when needed or when composing an email to send out.
I am a rails programmer in my spare time (my day job is in biological computing) so admire the work you have done - nice clean interface and functionality (esp smart groups .. very smart!!). I would be very happy to give feedback with both a church leader/member and programmer hats on.
Regarding pricing I wonder what you can recommend. We are a small fellowship (30 members) but with a larger fluctuating group of 'floaters' who we are doing our best to draw into the church family. Our weekly income is approx £500 (less than $1000 US) so I don't think I can convince the members to outlay an ongoing monthly cost. I see there's some mention of cornerstone accounts- do you think these could suit us. What would you recommend?
Many thanks

Inappropriate?Hey Anthony. Well, like I said, all the attachments will be retrievable still in the current layout in the messages section, but what you suggested is pretty much along the lines for what I have planned for a future update - having a section that lists all the files that have been attached by themselves where you can go through them by date order to act as a file repository. It will most likely be part of a broader update that will give each group its own page that will act as a sort of hub for it, listing all the messages, events, people and files that are associated with it. So, it sounds a lot like what you've described :)
As for pricing, the Cornerstone account is definitely going to be the most economical way to go, since it's a one time fee that's the equivalent of 6 months of Medium sized payments with nothing more to pay after that. However, if you don't anticipate ever being a large church that would take advantage of the Medium sized account, let me know and we could probably work out the same type of plan for a Small (e.g. one time payment equivalent to 6 months of a Small). I'm not sure the New Plant would suffice for a lifetime account though, since you will probably need more space than the 100 people allotment over the course of your fellowship. Let me know what you think. I'm limiting it to 200 Cornerstone accounts total, so I'm trying to keep it simple and therefore only officially offering the one Medium size, but if there is enough need for churches to get different sized accounts then I might reserve a portion of them for different sizes.
And thanks for the kind words! Stafftool has really been a labor of love during the development and I'm really excited to start having people using it!
I’m happy
