Quick Pull Pro 3.5.4 on Blackberry Curve 83xx. Replaced phone (same model) and reinstalled qpp. When scheduled for a 3am run, it apparently stops and asks some question about "key insertion" or "keystroke insertion" (the word " injection" may have been there instead of "insertion" permission. When I click on whatever the default is, the program seems to run as before. When I went to options, advanced, apps, and tried to find this permission somewhere, I could not. Then I tried hitting the menu key while quick pull was open, and the only option that came up was "close". It there some way I can fix this problem?

Hello, Rick. I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with QuickPull. If you could, please navigate to Options -> About on your BlackBerry to let me know the specific OS and Platform versions you are running. Then, please follow the steps in this FAQ (http://faq.steelthorn.com/index.php?V...) to send us your log files. Be sure to do this right after running QuickPull so the correct data is captured. This will help us to pinpoint what is causing the problem and hopefully correct it. I apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to hearing back from you. -
-
Just a question about procedure: When you say "send us" things like os and platform versions, do you want me to post them on this space? Or email them to you at some address? If so, what address? For now I will post here that by berry 8330 is using v4.5.0.175 and platform 3.4.0.55.
By the way, when I get to step #7 below and choose filtered, something seems to happen, but I don't know where or what was saved or how to retrieve it. In short, the "that" in step 8 is what i'm having trouble finding. I'm sure if I can retrieve it I can email it to myself.
6. Press Menu and select "Save"
7. Press Menu and select "Copy Day's Content" and choose Filtered
8. Paste that into an e-mail to yourself for copying/pasting -

Hello, again. Yes, by "send us" we mean that you can just post them in this thread. I apologize for the confusion. For the logs instructions, once you copy the day's content it's the same thing as copying something to the "clipboard" on computers. The day's logs are copied, and then you can go to any text field, such as the reply box on this site, and press Menu -> Paste on your BlackBerry. This will paste the logs into the reply box. I apologize for any confusion and look forward to hearing back from you. -

If it matters, I noticed when I awoke this a.m. about 5am (QPP is set to run at 3am) the first thing that came up referred to something that needed to be done before installation was complete (as if something was incomplete about my reinstallation). Next came the screen about "keystroke insertion" permission being denied, but when I paid closer attention, I think it said that Quick Pull MONITOR (caps mine) was being denied the permission.. When I answer yes to whatever the ultimate prompt is, QP seems to run without any problems. I'd just like it to run in the background as it used to.
Thanks for any help you can give. -
-
Also, it you think it's important, I can write down exactly what the screens say if you can't get it from the above.

Hello again, Rick. Thank you for taking the time to send the log files to us. We appreciate you providing the extra details as every bit of info we get helps us solve the problem. I've forwarded this thread to our development team for closer investigation, and I will update this thread when I have more information from our developers. I apologize for any inconvenience this issue is causing and hope to have a solution for you soon. -

To provide additional info (which you may not need if the “dump” provided previously give you all this anyway) this is what the screen shows when my Blackberry wakes me at 4am (The wakeup alarm works fine, but the “autorun” feature of QPPro was set for 3am. I’ve not been awake at 3am to see what happens then.):
Application terminated:QuickPullMonitor
has been denied the "Keystroke Injection"
permission.
(Box) OK
Then after clicking on OK (no other choice is given)
The device is required to reset
to complete the module
installation or removal.
Notice 1 of 5
(Box) Reset now
(Box) Reset later
Choosing “Reset now” appears to run the program (as far as I can tell)
It would seem that the reinstallation may not be complete (at least according to the second screen). I have no idea what the "Keystorke Injection permission" might be.
Just a FYI update, I probably should have sent this info at the beginning.

Hello again Rick. Thank you for the additional info. The Keystoke Injection permission is necessary for QuickPull to run, but the good news is there might be a simple fix. If you could, please verify that your permissions are set correctly by navigating to Options > Advanced > Applications on your BlackBerry. Once there, scroll to highlight QuickPull and press Menu > Edit Permissions. Set all permissions to DENY, then save. Then. set all permissions to ALLOW and save again. Please let me know if this takes care of the problem. Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you. -

Apologies for the length of this post. The short version is "it seemed to work." You can stop here if you're pressed for time. That said:
After saving all the denied permissions there was a more or less forced reboot, as if QPP was running., which I allowed to happen, and indeed when the reboot was done the screen read “Application terminated: QuickPullAutoStart has been denied the “Interporess Communication” permission. OK. I clicked on OK (no other choice) then same screen but referenced QuickPullMonitor instead of QuickPullAutoStart OK, then to the edit permissions screen (there were three of them), and set “connections” and “interactions” to “allow” but could not to change “User Data” to “allow”. The choices “allow, default, and deny” pop up, but the cursor will not move from the “deny” choice. After saving again (with “user data” on “deny”).
After this, when I attempted to run QPP from the home screen I got the “application needs to reset to allow module ...(something or other, see previous responses), but then it went ahead and ran without any input from me (or I guess it did).
After that, I went back again and tried to change the User Data permission to “allow” and still couldn’t do it. Now the user data permission is set to “deny” and I can’t change it at all. What about the other permission listed under the three listed above? Am I supposed to try to change all of them as well?
MAIN POINT is that the program seems to be running. The “application needs to reset to allow...” screen seems to end by itself, so unless I happen to be looking at the screen at 3am (not likely) when I’ve schedule QPP to run, I wouldn’t notice anything; i.e., maybe this screen was always there in the past.
Just a suggestion for future versions: some sort of “done” screen that says something like “Quick Pull has finished simulating a Battery Pull for you!!” or something like it. This way folks could tell if the program ran or not. The screen should clear itself after five seconds or so. More complicated would be a “log” that one could access, keeping track of the last 100 times (or so) that program ran, what time, results (if any), etc..
I still can’t change the “User data” permission from “deny” back to whatever it was beforehand, but it seems to have little effect on things at the moment. Could you give me a more detailed list of exactly what “permissions” should be listed, how many, etc. some of the settings previously were “custom” and some were “allow.” I can’t remember which was which.

Hello again, Rick. Thanks for the update. Are you on a BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server) by any chance? If so, your server admin will need to allow the Keystroke Injection permission to get QuickPull working fully smoothly. Also, I noticed that you mentioned you replaced your old phone. If by chance you bought the phone on eBay or from another pre-owned source, it is possible that the phone was associated with a BES in the past and the previous restrictions can sometimes remain even if the phone has been wiped. If the latter is your case, there are steps available on the internet to fully remove all traces of the IT settings from your phone that I should be able to help walk you through. In the meantime, I am glad to hear that, for the most part, the app seems to be working.
I have forwarded your suggestion to add a "done" screen to future versions of QuickPull to our developer team because I think it is a good idea. It is possible we will add such a screen to our OS 6 version of QuickPull.
I very much appreciate all the effort you have put into describing this issue in detail, and your continued patience throughout this matter. I am sorry that this issue has taken so long to resolve but I feel we are close to a resolution. Please let me know if you are on a BES or if the phone was purchased second-hand. Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you. -

Although I have heard (many times) of a Blackberry Enterprise Server, I don't know what one is, so it's not likely I am on one. Also, the phone was a direct replacement from Blackberry, (presumably) new or maybe reburbished.
However the "steps to remove traces" of whatever piques my interest, because I'm having trouble with a program called Tether, which worked fine on my old phone, yet has NEVER worked since I changed phones, despite many emails back and forth (runs to 14 pages now) and new downloads, restarts, etc. Could you post some of the sites your were talking about (or just email them to me at rjoslin@charter.net)?
And the "done" screen makes sense from a marketing point of view as well. Might as well brag when you can about your product.
And kudos to you folks for taking all this time and effort over an inexpensive program like Quick Pull. It shows me (and ahyone following this thread) that you've got your customers in mind.

Hi, Rick. BlackBerry Enterprise Server is to BlackBerry as "active directory" is to corporate Windows domains. In plain English, it simply provides centralized management of all aspects of the BlackBerry for companies and corporations whose employees use BlackBerry phones for their jobs.
I'm not sure how RIM handles their replacement phones but in the event they did send you a refurbished model, it's fairly unlikely it would have any traces of BES IT policy on it, but it is definitely possible. So just in case, here are the steps to fully remove them. http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/remov...
Regarding Tether, since you have the same phone as before I'm not really sure why it would stop working, but if you haven't already, your best bet is to ask the developers of that app (which appear to also be called Tether) what they think might be the cause.
Thank you again for all your patience and understanding in this matter, and please don't hesitate to let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.
Cheers! -
