Thanks! The original QuickPull was released around November of 2008 and has evolved much since. That description is also a bit old. We recently exceeded the 2.5mm mark :)
I think that phrase comes from the idea that a "real" battery pull is considered "hard" while a software-induced reset is considered "soft".
