We have ticketed this request and asked the engineers to consider implementing a new visual editor (note that the previous version only played nicely with Firefox).
The V4 interface is built on a new code-base and thus it's not as simple as "just putting the old one back".
We'll report back to this thread when we have something to report - whether that be a yea or a nay (we add links to the relevant GS threads to the tickets, so that we can continue to associate them). In order to set fair expectations, I would offer that I would not personally expect this to be a "quick fix" - even if the engineers are able to support the request.

If GreaseMonkey has an editor that interacts just fine with the EXISTING CODE, then why is it so difficult to do so officially within Stumble Upon...
I'm starting to wonder as well, what is the rationale and motivation behind the change in interface here. You've got a good thing going, S.U. -- you could draw in more users. If you are trying to push out bloggers, is it a capacity decision -- monetary? What? I think you have a lot of geeks and coders that belong and SU-users want to know.

You have said:
"The V4 interface is built on a new code-base and thus it's not as simple as `just putting the old one back’.”
This being the case -- and it was news to me – we need a lot more information than the spin being offered in SU promos and a sentence here of explanation.
I don’t think it is unreasonable to ask now for a full and detailed summary as to what established stumblers can expect in the near future, since this is obviously a whole new ball game.
Those who make the decisions at SU must know now what people coming to the GS forum want, if they didn’t before.
It might feel like going into a lion’s den but it has to be admitted these are far more wide-ranging changes than we’ve seen before, and for the first time they include cutbacks.
So . . .
1) Given that many members see this as a blogging network, does SU in fact resent, merely tolerate or wish to encourage their participation?
Or 2) Is it instead pitching solely now for what GMC himself describes as a place “somewhere between Google and Twitter”?
If the latter is the case, and it does appear to be, the whole focus shifts towards search features and more anonymous participation – especially given that our favourite personalised search feature, the tag cloud, has been removed.
The move towards a Twittery interface on the other hand is hard to miss, given the difficulty of posting anything comprehensive or formatted in the “new” SU.
Is there any chance GMC could address the membership of his own network for a change?
That one gesture would be appreciated, even if he was to deliver news we don't want to hear.
SU would risk losing a lot of members by being up-front about its new direction but must at the same time be confident it has a workable new model, so why can we not get a clear mission statement and some facts on which to make our own decisions?
Perhaps I’ll put it more simply
3) Will the established membership, and I’m talking here about the people who ask questions at GS, still be catered for at all, with close to the full range of features they have had at their fingertips in past versions of SU?
4) Will the focus of improvements and support now instead be on use of the toolbar and search features?
5) Where do the kinds of stumblers who frequent GS, write reviews and explore the more advanced features of SU stand in the scheme of things? IE, are they still seen as part of a knowledge base or now as part of an old culture that must be driven away?
Regarding (5), I have been confused about this right since V4 was introduced, since on the one hand we’ve long been encouraged to take part in forums and seek fixes and improvements, but on the other hand things have changed radically, and so little information has been forthcoming this time.
Any insights and particularly facts would be appreciated at this point.

Please bring back Visual Editor.
Why should we be forced to write everything in code to accomplish an attractive post? With the Visual Editor I could resize my images, recolor my fonts, resize and change the type of fonts I used and get a very good idea of how the final post would appear.
Not having Visual Editor is a giant step backward for SU and brings its potential down drastically. The simple act of resizing a picture will now take minutes rather than seconds and still not know if it is right or not. SU 4 will be fine once we all learn it, but without Visual Editor it will be only a ghost of SU 3 in composing posts.
Please let us have Visual Editor back. We will all appreciate it so much if you will; it is one of the best features of the SU operating system.

Hi there, thank you for trying to make stumble upon better. Changes are always good but I can imagine that you get a lot of resistance from the users. However I want to give my thoughts to the new site too.
1) The visual editor "was" a great tool as I am adding descriptions to my pictures which all are the same size, colour and fond
In the "new" site - my descriptions have funny letters in between, are out of place or have changed colours. I have put a lot of effort in making them all look the same. I am prepared to go through all of them again and change them to the same style - but would need the visual editor.
2) I dont like the fact that the website is shown in the review, as well as the info of how many reviews, when and how review them. This is unecessary information.
3) I have not tried it yet but I hope there is a feature to resize the pictures I am adding as I want them all to be the same size.

Inappropriate?I really miss the use of the visual editor tool in SUv4. Part of the reason I like SU so much is the creativity factor. Not just as an outlet for myself but to see the creativity of others when they post or review something.
Also, many times I'll post a photo and then want to add a narrative later. Unless I'm missing something (which is possible) this isn't an option right now with v4.
I strongly urge the powers that be to bring it back with the preview option for ease of use.

Inappropriate?I'm afraid, everyone posting to this thread is missing the point. The question is not whether the Visual Editor will be brought back, but whether or not it will be possible to use html codes in V4 at all. I've tried it - no use. Once you make the slightest change in the text (say, add a word), all formatting disappears completely. What we should actually ask for is not the Visual Editor (the basic codes that it saved us the trouble knowing are easy to learn) but the possibility to use html at all.

You're so right html codes not working. One of the many reasons I've thrown up my hands and stopped adding to my site. Although I don't work for SU, can you please PM me, as I like pretend that I'm important in public forums to make up for my seriously compromised self esteem, plus it's te only way I know to make friends, although they don't last very long. -

Not only for those who are lazy but also for those who care how their pages look, or want to preview a post prepared with a visual editor elsewhere, which almost always needs tweaking for SU's own format requirements.
I think it is unconscionable of SU not to provide one. -
Inappropriate?please forgive me if this has been answered before, but why are they getting rid of the visual editor, and when is this going to happen?
-
There is no visual editor in v4.
We don't know "why" for sure but I would guess that they are just trying to simplify the Stumbleupon features. It may also be that statistically they found it was not used often enough *shrug* those are both guesses...
I just want a flipping preview button... that is all.. just that one button... -

Inappropriate?what is 631 against 1075 stumblers who think that the SImilarity Meter is something that SU simply can't do without?
I’m sad
-
1075 was enough to get the Similarity Meter back, so 631 might be enough to bring this back (BTW, I'm neutral, as I've never used the Visual Editor.) -
having used WYSIWYG editors as far back as Classic SU, I suspect many people have made use of third party extensions, the limited amount of tweaking I find time to do I find using the limited html I've learned here is enough - however previewing my attempts to embed links etc in all SU 'boxes' would be great, save me having to apologise and resend PM's for example when I've slipped and let a typo make a mess of the code. -
I can't use SUE, I write my code by hand... its a habit. The SUE just breaks what I do so I really want a plain old preview button.. I'd be kewl with it being a GM addon tho... any takers?? -
a preview button is commonplace enough on t' webs, you'd think it was something revolutionary -

If you can, click on "beta", after "leave beta", you'll get back your "visual editor"
ok, it's the way i take, so i can have the new and the old version of SU, it works and ... see by yourself
well wishes -
Blifrost, thanks for your comment, but you do know that at some point - perhaps as early as the first week in December, perhaps into the new year, the old SU, ie V3 will cease to be, and the only SU will be the new one V4 - that as yet does not have a visual editor?
Or Friends, or Friends requests or notification system, isn't backwards compatible, hasn't a tag cloud, to name just the main gripes. -
lol Charles, doesn't this clearly illustrate how some people just have no idea what they are in for? I wish it was as simple and click click leave beta lol.
I am still only using v4, no point in using v3, it'll be gone soon, although when I need to find one of my old posts or well find just about anything I do have to switch back to v3 to do it quickly, once v3 is gone it will then take me 45min+ to find something I could have found in v3 in 30 seconds, I'll miss the use of my archives. I really wish they would bring back the preview button but that is the least of my problems at this point *coughtagcloudcough* -
I have been using V4 for the same reason. Recently I installed FF 3.6 which runs alongside 3.5 meaning I can have V3 and V4 running simultaneously.
It's interesting to say the least. Especially comparing the Visitor pages, which can be wildly different. -

I do appreciate CH responding here. I am losing hope though of SU retaining the features I like or of changing into something I don't like "more anonymous and impersonal". The promotional spin has been confusing and adds to the resentment. It's nice to hear what's really going on even if it means I seek new blogging opportunities.

Jude as ever has nailed the key issues, the key questions - I agree Jamie that it appears SU doesn't want our bloggings.
Which, if that is the case, is SU's right, this being essentially a free service - Worse case scenario - all things remain equal - V4 remains essentially as is ( without key functionality ) I can revert to my virgin days of just stumble - thumbing. No discoveries, no tags, no reviews. ( with the removal of SU tag cloud I'm working to rule anyway when it comes to tagging ) New content I discover can be blogged on other services.
Each competitor for my time have their particular advantages - and each does individual things better than SU - it's less convenient that the SU one stop shop was - however V4 makes this less true - plus things have moved forward, with addon's like shareaholic which make cross platform blogging much easier.
I resigned to breaking the SU blogging habit.
Simply tweaking V4 won't be enough - I want all of the functions of V3 with the improved look and layout of V4 - with actually works without needing to refresh constantly, and features like the visual editor and newer better toys that can compete with tumblr and clipmarks/amplify for my attentions. -
Inappropriate?I think I got so used to the simple visual editor in SU3 that I find SU4 so boring. I think most of us are asking for a simple visual editor , nothing fancy so why can't it be included in SU4?
Instead of being an enhancement , a step forward - SU4 seems more like a step back for SU.

Yeah, I'm not sure why, but I started to get a flood of emails yesterday, even though the only time I even looked at this site was many weeks ago. Very annoying. Good thing for spam filters - this site officially qualifies as spam now. Even worse, since I apparently used my SU name here instead of a new name, it thinks I'm not a member here and cannot edit preferences to not receive constant email updates. It's even more user-unfriendly than SU has become. Wonderful. -
if you 'me too' a thread, at the top and or comment, you will get a notice in your email by default. -
Me too - I wonder why - I have just changed my primary email to the gmail one as suggested. -
Inappropriate?I am all for change,BUT hay the tools that we used worked,so all I have to say is give them back. There are far to many sad, irritated people here now in SU/ I dear say contemplating the move, like right out of/away from SU,now that is SAD
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? If GreaseMonkey has an editor that interacts just fine with the EXISTING CODE, then why is it so difficult to do so officially within Stumble Upon...
I'm starting to wonder as well, what is the rationale and motivation behind the change in interface here. You've got a good thing going, S.U. -- you could draw in more users. If you are trying to push out bloggers, is it a capacity decision -- monetary? What? I think you have a lot of geeks and coders that belong and SU-users want to know.
I’m confused

The worse case scenario is exactly that - SU isn't interested in the Stumblers blogs
Best case is that SU has basically been rebuilt from scratch, and they haven't for reasons unknown - yet - included a raft of features we grew used to using in V3.
The hope being that in due course we'll get the tag cloud and the visual editor etc.
Unfortunately we just have to wait and see what happens.
In the meantime many Stumblers are using other services -
Inappropriate?if you wait sometime for anything, you will wait lifetime

Inappropriate?Yes, I keep a facebook page for posting photos for family mostly and i am getting more and more requests from my SU friends to add them there. They are saying that is SU is a becoming a second rate Facebook so why not go to the real thing.
I’m sad
